Marvel and action fans were already gunna see it - so in order to convince atypical movie goers they got the manlets and SJWs to fight each other, which in turn got their more responsible parents to see it.

Really, the only demographic they didn't advertise to is the social loner who doesn't have money

Like all Marvel movies...

But I heard most people like that it is serious and not jokey like the avengers. I would love if they made more that weren't jokes every scene

I usually prefer more jokey films but I still enjoyed Black Panther.
Even the MCU needs to be more serious sometimes.
And DC needs to lighten up and start making jokes.

The only reason I'd see it and others I know have seen it is because it's another Superhero film. Can't comment on if it's good or not as I've not seen it yet but I haven't watched a bad Marvel superhero film in along time so it comes as no surprise that this is getting glowing reviews.

Spawn was rated R and came out earlier.

Blade is not MCU but it was the first Marvel superhero film with a US release. Which should tell you something about how uncommon it is when this is the first MCU movie with a black lead (and larger cast) in this long running comic book loving Hollywood

Probably because on top of already being guaranteed Marvel numbers the fact that it had a predominantly black cast where they were the heroes instead of the villains drew in a potentially larger than average black audience for that type of film.

Is that really hard to understand or are you trying to act like it's wrong? Not sure the intention of this topic.

i feel like it's pretty obvious. if you think about it, black people don't have a ton of movies where they are the predominant race of the cast unless it's those tyler perry movies or those wayans brothers satire movies.

they've NEVER had a movie with a superhero where the superhero was black and so was most of the cast. other races are so underrepresented in american produced movies so when a different race makes up the majority of the cast that race tends to go see that movie in larger numbers even if they aren't usually the target audience due to other demographics or interests.

it's not because the superhero alone is black, it's the entire movie. it's the cast, it's the setting, it's the fact that africans are actually the strongest/wealthiest culture via wakanda in this universe. they're not being relegated to stereotypes or tropes.

Like with Spawn they changed races of secondary characters to white so that it didn't seem like it was a "black movie" and reduce the film budget

It's so very rare to have a cast like this for a big budget film.

They may have been one reason, but I don't think it was the only one. I mean, Black Panther is also an important part of the MCU coming up, so they just wanted to make sure they did his movie correctly. But it could open up for more movies like it, I guess.
