So apparently, some schools are starting to ban the term "best friend", because it's exclusionary, and will make your other friends feel bad.

I thought this was satire, but there are multiple articles for it. I was talking about it with my coworker; and someone on probation spoke up, and said it's already started at his child's school.

This is worse than invisible soccer.

I'm pretty left-leaning, but this is fucking ridiculous.

You already can't use red ink to grade papers because it might hurt feelings on low grades because "red ink is equal to yelling at someone" in a bunch of places.

Last I checked failure was, in fact, not supposed to feel good and happy. It's supposed to motivate you to be fucking better.

if two kids want ro eat a cookie, but they only have one. if only one gets a cookie, it's "exclusionary.
so, the best solution is obviously to just throw it away, and noone gets a cookie, cause atleast it's equal.

Yeah, my little sister(14), her friends and probably half the school are "suicidal". None of them ever actually do anything like try to commit suicide, but whatever.

There's also a very substantial amount of gay/lesbian kids and trans kids. I realize that statistics aren't exact, but still...

This is as stupid as "everyone gets a trophy". No, only the people who EARNED trophies get trophies. To those who didn't, failure is often the best teacher, learning from your mistakes and persevering is the way you get that trophy. Not allowing kids to fail is depriving them of a learning opportunity and teaching them "I don't have to work for anything" and that's wrong.

Just as this "no best friend" thing is wrong.
