I used to work in the industry and I can say with confidence it depends very much on the refurbisher. CDI, Shivnet, and ERI (3 of the big dogs) are absolute horse shit, and I would never buy from them.

Synergy, Blair technology and a few choice others do good work and actually sell good products.

On another note, if you are buying refurbished, you are best off buying commercial grade. Consumer shit is built to break, commercial is built to last.

I've bought phones and consoles that were refurbished. I've always expected them to break in a short amount of time but most things have been ok. The only thing that didn't last was a Xbox 360, surprise surprise.

The only refurbished thing I purchased was an original Playstation. It was all I could find at the time I bought it. It came with a guarantee that if it broke within two years I could return it for a new console. After all these years it still works.

Depends. Any time I see something like a refurb hard drive or power supply, I bristle a little.

On the other hand, anything where lifespan isn't a serious issue, I've had no problems buying the occasional refurbished unit.

Whenever I see "refurbished", I'm wary that it will break again if I buy it.

How the hell would refurbishing a power supply work?
