Gee, I wonder why I haven't been depressed lately. It must be a pure coincidence that I found a girl who likes me and I'm happy now.

you haven't been depressed lately because your entire account is a gimmick and nothing you've ever posted has been accurate about yourself

And if you two break up, you'll be depressed once more. That's not healthy. Clearly using a gf to distract from the larger problem at hand.

The honeymoon phase doesn't last forever. It's a short term cure. Long term you gotta work on yourself.

These. If there was something wrong with you, the elation you feel at finally getting a girlfriend is just covering up your issues.

It's because you weren't actually depressed.

if it was that easy a fix then it wasn't depression. you were probably just down on yourself for not receiving sexual attention, which is 100% normal and literally almost everyone goes through that shit. i guess new relationships/meeting new people does ease depression symptoms a bit though, but not for long. for me it's a month or two max before things start slipping. by 6 months i'm back at the bottom of the hole.

So is that why SSRIs didn't help me?

I'm happy now.

Happy in which way?

Elated/infatuated? Unsustainable. The honeymoon phase eventually wears off. That's not necessarily a bad thing in a relationship, but read on further.

Content? Better, but if it's necessarily dependent on the relationship status, what about in the event of a breakup/death/cheating/etc?

When people say relationships can't make you happy, they don't mean it doesn't mean transiently in the moment. They mean that it's not a reliable source.

Find that happiness within. Be content with yourself without someone. Then if anything happens, it doesn't whirlwind you out of control in the event "something" happens. The plus side is that if you are happy and content with yourself without somebody, that when someone does come into your life, it is easier to develop healthier relationship habits as well. Sets you up for future success.

Everyone is elated and giddy in a new relationship. Some people get addicted to that feeling, and that's why they go from relationship to relationship. Because it's unsustainable and they chase that fleeting feeling.

ssris only help you help yourself, they're only good for giving you enough energy to get out of bed from truly paralysing depression so you can get out and do things to make life not suck so much. they won't even scratch a low mood or anything as they aren't happy pills, and you'll only feel the bad side effects if you aren't actually majorly depressed. if you still have enough will to live that you can attend parties, hang out with people and work regularly without issues, then you don't need ssris, just some good life experiences like meeting a girl or getting a job you like or working out more.
