Keep the main handgun until you get the red9. Then just focus on upgrading that fully

head/leg shot > kick > knife.
upgrading a weapons capacity refills its magazine.
examine treasures. some can be combined with others.
visually inspect the areas. there tends to be a lot of stuff to find.
treasure maps are worth it.

Contrary to popular belief: Don't overduse headshot->Melee combo unless your positioning is good, otherwise it's an easy way to get yourself surrounded and eating a bunch of unneeded damage.

Flash Grenades instantly kill (most) Plagas.

Don't be afraid to use items, the game is designed to roll the dice to give you what you're short on.

R+Y+G Herb mix increases Max HP, get as many as you can.

Hunting Rifle Chainsaw dude from a distance and then Shotgun him in close range, time it so that you can repeatedly knock him back down after he gets up (as he has super armor frames while he's getting up which can result in you reloading as he's charging at you for an OHKO)

you really should look up a treasure guide since you can easily be screwed by moving past an important one(back tracking is limited) or knowing what can be combined or not to up their overall worth.

Fully upgrade the main handgun and the Blacktail. Disregard the Red9. Avoid breaking barrels, as that will just attract enemies to your location. Avoid using grenades; they might blow up on you.

Save the free rocket launcher for a certain boss fight involving freezing that boss

Shoot birds nests

Shoot the knees then melee grapple

Why everyone thinks it's so great is beyond me. The game is full of broken mechanics you can abuse to make it a walk in the park even in the hardest mode.

The enemies run towards you and stop right before reaching you and then they walk slowly giving you enough time to do anything....the A.I. is a joke. "Hey guys there's a ton Ganados coming after me. I'll just shoot one guy in the face and then do a devastating AoE roundhouse kick that will knock everyone away from me(while making me invulnerable). While they're taking their slow ass time to get back up I think I'll seal their fate with my knife"

Not being able to change your weapons in real time is also terrible even for its time several games allowed you to do this....go watch a YouTube of mercenary mode the ones with high scores and I guarantee you they pause more than 20 times.

The knife and pistol is already one of the most powerful weapons in the game. In fact you could clear most of the game with just these two weapons. And because you're not using your other weapons and ammo (because you're lol pwning with the knife) you can then sell your access ammo and other weapons and buy even stronger weapons to literally blow through the bosses.

Let's not forget that if they somehow manage to grab you, it's insanely easy to get out of it and even kill them by kicking their head to explosion, and if you ever think you can get close to me then say hello to my grenades or shotgun lol.

It's fine. It has great knock down at distance and fires pretty fast. It's the most fun imo, but the reg shitty and riot gun are probably better overall
