OSAKA, JapanNintendo Co. is looking to peripherals to lift the sales pace of its Switch videogame console in the products second year on the market rather than changing its basic hardware

The people familiar said expanded Switch features in the coming year could also include additional network-related features and peripherals to be attached to its USB Type-C port.

But they said changes to the Switch itselflike a smaller version of the machinewere unlikely this year as Nintendo focuses on better manufacturing and shipping of the current model.

At an investor briefing in February, Mr. Kimishima, the Nintendo CEO, said he wanted to make the Switchs product cycle longer than the five-to-six-year span thats become customary in the videogame console industry. One person familiar with development plans said waiting longer to introduce variations in the hardware would serve that purpose

I guess we're still a couple of years away from a hardware revision. Probably gonna see more stuff like LABO and new Joycon styles.

It was obvious it wasn't coming anytime soon.

It was all speculation based on making the 3DS to Switch transition easier by releasing it by the time Pokemon Switch came out. This doesn't rule it out because Pokemon can be delayed, but it was never happening this year.

Regardless, it means very little when Nintendo has denied things, only to reveal them a week later.

No. But Nintendo sometimes release revisions pretty early. I doubt they need to with how fast the Switch is selling.

I'm guessing any future revisions will probably be pretty minor too. Nothing as huge as a smaller or bigger model so they still work with the Joycons.

Some stuff like increasing the screen size (less bezel) and whatever hardware improvements they can make are probably the only things we'll see.

Or maybe they'll just wait until Switch 2. I think Nintendo is going to be making Switch style consoles for a long time.

No. But Nintendo sometimes release revisions pretty early. I doubt they need to with how fast the Switch is selling.

This isn't PR. It's a scoop. WSJ have leaked out a few things with Nintendo's plans in the past.

Wsj is the first publication that leaked it would be both a console and a handheld. Just so everyone knows.

I don't see how this is bad news, it's kind of a "fuck you" from tech companies when they release a better version of their hardware almost immediately after the initial release
