man, everything except gameplay itself is so good

Yeah, no idea how platinum managed to make a shitty battle system, everyhting is floaty as fuck, even the first Nier had better combat.

That said, I loved it and wiped my memory because the ending was so good and I wanted to honor it despite wanting to 100%.

it's basically bayonetta but with all the challenge and consequence taken out of it. granted i really sucked playing bayo, but i think they should've at least incentivised switching weapons and varying combos a little

first nier was just very by the book, they didn't even go for the visual flair that platinum has (though cavia wasn't really known for that anyway)

not at all. it provides some context to the story, but it's not necessary to get a lot out of automata

i decided to cheat to alleviate some of the tedium, gave myself the item auto-pickup chip and a +8 item droprate chip, both costing only 1 point to equip

Yes it is, probably because you are not fighting lame hunks of steel over and over, you are fighting lame hunks of meet so the hits actually have some weight to them, especially with heavy weapons, and the blood spaltter helps drive them big hits home. It's also faster, and not floaty as fuck.

its not, but it adds enough to the story that i always recommened people play or watch/read a let's play of the first nier before playing automata.

If you attempt it on the hardest difficulty you're forced to learn the depth of the battle system a bit more.

There's more to it, but it's not fun to play that way imo.

What? The combat lacking depth was a very common complaint about the game, especially for people familiar with Platinum but not the Nier series. Some people went in hoping for something like MGR or Bayonetta and left very disappointed.

You mean the die in oen hit mode?

throwing balance out the window is not fun in any way, devil may cry 3 in dante must die is an example of a good difficulty level, enemies get new moves, they are super agressive and shit, it's not just take more damage and do less damage. Heaven or Hell is also a shit game difficulty lol.

I think it has good game play. Not phenomenal and isn't the best, but it's still better than a lot of stuff out there.

It makes me not want to replay the WHOLE thing though :/ That being said he might have been right since it was one of the few games last year I actually beat and it was the only game I played for a week.

Personally, I didn't feel route B wasn't as repetitive as it sounds since it's pretty easy to just run from one point to the other. There's little reason to explore the areas again. The payoff was certainly worth it.
