We have all heard the phrase "drink your problems away" but is it true?

I dont want some stupid medical opinion or answer, since it will always be "dont drink".

Ive been a bit depressed lately and have been binge drinking at lunch and after work. Normally i get 2 shooters but today i got 3 at lunch. Im about to head home now but i noticed after lunch my mood was much better. I made a lot of jokes and i felt like i actually connected with a few coworkers whereas normally im just passive agressive or always have some dumb negative comment to make because my outlook is bleak.

So i wanted to get some personal experiences from everyone. Some REAL shit though, no medical theory craft garbo from the same people who tell me to take pharmys.

Anyone here feel like drinking actually does help with problems or have people here noticed it ends up spiraling out of control.

Thanks to anyone for their input

Yes in a sense.

By drinking, you are removing the pain. But then you sober up, and you are looking for more to get rid of the pain.

You're basically borrowing your happiness from tomorrow to enjoy today.

Short-term, it distracts you from it, but long-term, it makes it worse. It's not a road you want to go down.

I'll be real. I've been told by an addiction counselor that I'm an alcoholic. I drank to deal with my depression and anxiety for a few years. I ended up drinking at work regularly and going through a bottle of rum every other day. It was a short term fix that lead to other issues when there are actual healthy and better solutions.

Short term yes, but in the long run you're fucked if you rely on alcohol. I wouldn't suggest it.

All it does is distract you from your problems. It doesn't make them go away.

Yeah it helps sometimes until you end up with fatty liver or liver failure then the real depression sets in.

It makes me happy, but that's when I'm already in a decent mood. I don't think it would help anything if you're already depressed.

It makes it worse in the long term, unless you stay drunk all the time, and thats not something you want to do

Mostly meant as a really bad phrase, like to reference an obvious alcoholic who is just a miserable pos.

Sometimes can point to somebody who just had a particularly bad day or week and is drinking their problems away for a night.
