I just find it laughable that this is where people draw the line on big brother\nanny state. Not Muh video games!!!!!!!!!

It just makes me laugh.

I'm 100% for the government staying out of people business I've already said this. I'm even more for personal accountability and people managing their own lives for better or worse.

Is that something that would really happen?

We have plenty of 18+ games in UK/Europe with the PEGI rating and it hasn't done a thing to hamper their sales.

That wont happen either. The worst case scenario is a law enforcing something most retail chains already do barring online. So if anything, itll effect the online side of retail. And thats not saying much since if a parent is willing to walk into Target and buy GTA for their 7 year old, I fail to see how requirement of ID online would be some deal breaker.

Technically they agreed not to sell games that were not rated by the ESRB. They never said they would sell any game that got a rating.

They agreed to not sell AO games if more games are given the AO for violence, less violent games will be made.

Mostly all pornos. Nothing to which Im speaking of like CoD or GTA.

Law makers can try, but theres no way thats happening and sticking without extreme backlash.

IMO if games devs/companies are smart, Im sure they can rally the gaming community to match the NRA. Maybe back in the 90s this would work, but not now.

The evidence is pretty solid that violent video game exposure increases aggression, but it's silly to blame school shootings on this.

I have a hard time believing this since violent games do the opposite for me. Whenever I feel like punching a wall or yelling at someone I play a shooter or something just as violent. It takes the stress out of me and after I'm finished with the game I don't feel aggressive IRL.

Take what he said at face value.

While its true studies show it cause aggression, theres plenty of studies that prove the opposite as well.

In particular to your case, studies showing it relieving aggression.

I mean, catharsis has also been shown to be pretty much not a thing. Carrying out angry/aggressive acts just makes people more angry/aggressive on the whole.

Once again based on my experiences and people I know, I find that hard to believe.

Try saying "fuck you" to a person who excessively gets on your nerves. The relief is amazing.

Yeah but that is because 18+ content isn't taboo like it is in the US, 18+ rated movies and games are not sold in stores or allowed on consoles because of family values, but oddly you have to be 18+ to buy a PA CD which IS sold in most stores.

Video games have been proven to trigger aggression, but it's always temporary aggression. Once the game is turned off, the aggression eventually goes away. I mean art itself can cause you to have temporary feelings in what it's trying to convey like watching a movie that makes you sad so you cry or is funny and makes you laugh at certain scenes. Trying to equate mass shootings to video games is a giant lol

To be fair all those articles are written by different people. Of course that is not to say there is indeed hypocrisy among some of the hardcore left leaning groups, especially from people like Anita Sarkeesian who is pretty much the female version of Jack Thompson.
