They just put in computers to order food at the McDonald's by my job, who's clientele is mainly people 70+. I can 100% say that this does not work and some guy has to attend the computers and order for the guests for a full shift lol and if you want to pay in cash you have to order at the computer then walk over to a register and wait for a worker to take your money. Even the younger people don't want to deal with this shit.

On the plus side, extra sauce cups don't have an additional charge. Got 10 szechuan sauces on accident today.

Is that sauce a permanent thing you can get any day? Maybe I should try it just to say I did...

Dunno. I don't go to McDonald's often but I saw it on the menu and decided to get it. I'm sure it'll be back for a while.

Mine has had the kiosks for over a year. While I don't go there much I find it much better than dealing with someone at the counter. The only downside is when the receipt slot gets jammed and they dispense inside the machine.

I'm in IT and not technology averse really

But sorry corporations, I'm going wait in line and make you pay a human

Even doing self checkout at the grocery store I'm gunna get stuck behind some idiot using self checkout to by produce, which defeats the whole purpose

It's also incredibly convoluted to make substitutions or remove shit like ketchup from a burger on these machines. Overall it's a bad customer experience. The jack in the box that tried to do this a few years ago by my house removed them after a week lol

produce is easy if you know how to do it..it would take the cashier the same amount of time to put in the amount and thing as it would for you.

but yeah for fast food I just go through the drive through.

Fast for me maybe?

Fast for the people I have to wait behind? Good luck

If I see a shopping cart or and old person, self checkout is a wash

They've had the self service at my McDonald's for a very long time now.

It boggles my mind how popular it is. I have no idea why people would choose self service over human interaction, given the choice 0_o

I guess we kinda get what we deserve then

In theory if we free up these jobs there will be new uses for our workers, but idk it's scary. 100 years ago everyone worked in farming and manufacturing and we got by when those jobs went away.

Considering how social anxiety seems to be the norm now, I am not surprised.

They started mobile ordering 2-3 months ago and it's been pretty amazing and extremely easy.

You order on the app and shit gets paid right there and you just give them a 4 digit code and they give you your food. You can fully customize the food and everything.

Not really seeing as how 90% of the time they still have someone taking your order for you at the kiosk and inputting it at the kiosk. Just seems like a huge waste of money and an inconvenience for everyone involved

Also I've noticed with the kiosks that you can't add something to an item unless they've actually coded it in to let you, whereas at a register you can add whatever the fuck you want.

Like they had a BLT Egg McMuffin, which of course had Lettuce and Tomato. But you can't take a regular Egg McMuffin and add lettuce and tomato to it at the kiosk.
