Most the good stuff will get bought before it goes on significant discount. I am interested in a lot of their special forces toys for my son though.

That's not how liquidation works. They'll try to sell it as high as possible first. When Target closed in Canada electronics were 5% off at first. Eventually someone will buy it (or at least the good ones) before it reaches 90% off.

Also apparently Toys R Us Canada will remain business as usual. They are trying to sell it off without closing anything for now.

Yup, I remember the first day of our Hollywood Video liquidating inventory and we had people lined up outside the building to get 10% off used movies.

I literally told people "you are vultures who are literally paying almost full price for a used DVD."

If anything does make it to 90% off buy it all then wait for a store to have a trade-in deal worth more than what you paid for (I think EBGames/Gamestop has one once a year).

I still remember my first time in a Toys r Us after immigrating here from the Iraq/Jordan. It was sensory overload for a six-year-old. I'm not sure if I said a word the whole time I was there.

This makes me very sad. What a fun store this was as a kid and a great place to get games as an adult.

This seems low. That only puts about 37 employees per store, and when you consider how many people work for corporate and warehouses it puts it at a lot less than that, probably something like 32.

But maybe that's normal? I dunno it's a bit of a different business but I worked for Kohl's for 10 years and even at the slowest times of the year we had at least 50-60 people on payroll, and we were an infamously understaffed location.

This is so sad. I hate that the internet has driven so many stores out of business. Sad kids wont ever get the feeling of going into a toy store. I don't like buying stuff off of the internet because you never know what you are going to get. This world has changed.I wish the would of my youth would come back.

They refused to adapt. You can't sell overpriced toys with chains that can subsidize selling toys cheaper with additional revenue streams.

You need exclusives of note to stay in business. They had exclusives but none of note. The major toys were all sold elsewhere and for cheaper.

Liquidation sales are generally bad. People will usually buy up everything good at small discounts off msrp and the only things left by the time things get down to 50% are garbage. No returns either.

You can usually find much better deals on things in seasonal sales or whatever.

1) Less has been more in the house since the Casual Revolution of 2007. Kids just want tablets and smartphones, parents also dont want tons of crap everywhere too
2) Birth rates have also declined over time, fewer babies means fewer people to buy toys for.

Toys R Us was a place that I went to sometimes way back in the very early 2000s to buy Pokemon TCG booster packs. I also played the Pokemon TCG at a Pokemon League that was hosted at Toys R Us.

I remember selling a bunch of my old toys as a kid and the only thing bought were my old power rangers megazords and star wars action figures. Those were only bought by collection nerds, not parents.

I'll miss the Christmas catalog most of all.

As a kid I remembered flipping through it and imagining I was super rich and would buy every single toy. It's kind of sad to think that kids today won't ever have that feeling.

Seriously, even with video games. My little cousin watches more youtube videos of other people playing video games than he plays himself.

Yeah, this is a darn shame. I'm not affected though. Toy stores are still a big thing here. Toys R Us stores here are also owned a Scandinavian company, so they're unaffected by this. (Which is nice, got a nice part time job there).
