so are you saying you think they haven't aged well or is this something you've actually experienced when you've gone back to play old games

because this seems to be an opinion that's becoming more common but I'm wondering if it's just something people are saying

I still replay my favorite PS2 games from time to time and I still think they're great

The concept of "not aging well" is why I take the point of always trying to rate a game "in its time" rather than at the point in which I'm playing said game. I feel like it's so much more rewarding to appreciate what a game is doing when it's doing it rather than in hindsight.

It's extremely rare when I think a game has aged poorly. If I do, it's always because of the controls. Bad control schemes or clunky character movements were things I was willing to put up with when I was younger. But older me is far less patient.

Lets see, I tried to replay some of PS2 games a few months back. Couldn't play any MGS, San Andreas, RE4, KH, GoW and uhmm yeah that's it. SotC was the only game which was enjoyable playing again. DmC was fun too. I largely feel that the 2D SNES (especially platformer) games are timeless classics, most PS2 games do feel clunky nowadays.
