Sounds like another film adaptation that failed to live up to the expectations of the book. Reminds me of The Golden Compass in that fashion, in that they removed a lot of the subtext surrounding the protag and antag's movements because of religious controversy, and then ended the movie about 2/3rds of the way through the 1st book.

Ha yeah that's an interesting point, all the atheist messages removed from that

Or, as it seems more indicative of the articles posted in this topic, the casting of Oprah, the race of the director, and the exclusion of heavy Christian themes has made it a political target for people

The funny thing about this ludicrous article about the director claiming the movie is doing bad because of racism is that it actually demonstrates that at least some proportion of the negative press is highly politically charged.

It's funny, because I didn't even like the movie all too much and I find myself here defending it, because it's just some ordinary child sci-fi movie. But people are attacking it disproportionately, with obvious political bias.

Article author seems to have a mean-on for the film anyway:
https://pjmedia.com/faith/disneys-wrinkle-time-erases-books-bible-quotes-cuts-jesus-christian-figures-history/

PJ Media is a heavily Conservative media blogging site, so it's no wonder they would find a problem with the removal of Christianity as a central force in the narrative. I didn't see the movie because it looked like child-friendly garbage from the trailers, just like Tomorrowland looked like adult-central garbage from the trailers. Trailers are supposed to pique your interest and compel you to want to know more about the story. Neither trailer did that at all. No surprise that both movies underperformed in their markets.

This lady need to shut it. What is wrong with these victim-minded idiots always blaming racism for their own failures?

She shouldn't have cast Oprah. Nobody takes her seriously as a actress and I couldn't help but laugh when I saw her on screen. Everything else looks like a mess.

that director is herself racist. according to her social media posts, her comments in the news, and accounts from people who know her, she only sees race and gender in people. she is big on identity politics and thinks race and gender play into everything in the world. she doesn't see people as just individuals but what they are labeled as. and her movie sucked, but she doesn't want to admit it so she makes up boogeymen to explain it. also, the book was religious but she removed religion from the movie. I never read the book, but that is stupid. I hate when a major theme of a book is removed from the movie. don't even make the movie if you are going to totally change the theme of the story.

around 1:10 he says that she doesn't see anything other than race and gender

around 1:50 he yells at her for being mad at white people for not understanding the hair subplot, and says that she should have been a better storyteller to make it more clear, instead of expecting people with normal hair to get it with no help.

around 4:10 he goes on about that again. saying it's her fault as a filmmaker, not white viewer's faults

at the end of the video he says that with this lady it's always someone else's fault

basically this woman refuses to admit she made a bad movie and she just wants to blame people. she posts on twitter all the time about white people this and white people that. and before the movie came out she made a huge deal out of the people in her movie being black and acted like that was the important thing. and said her movie was going to be one of the most important movies in history. she is crazy and racist

thanks for the timestamps, but even watching him and reading your post, I still don't see it

yeah she tweets about race and gender a lot. that's true. and I haven't seen the movie, so idk how much attention the hair subplot gets or how critical it is to the character. it seems more like it was something included so women of color could acknowledge and connect with. to use an example you'd be familiar with zikten, in the first Thor movie Odin's horse that he has in the Jotunheim scene has 8 legs. this is a nod to the comics and to real world Norse mythology. to further connect the two, it'd be like the director tweeting to a journalist "you were the only non-Nordic journalist who didn't like comics to see, understand, and ask me about the extra legs. thank you!"

anyway, none of this has anything to do with your original point that "she blames white people for her movie failing."

I mean, greatevilempire didn't read it, and the admiral came to some random ass conclusion. But this is by far the stupidest post in the whole topic.

No where do you even type "she said". This means she didn't say it. The guy in the video is making assumptions and assertions (much like you are), but she never actually says anything like this.
