I was basing it on Grand Order where Astolfo was afraid to go fight some ghost enemies. I mean Leonidas is afraid of ghosts in it too, but thats just his gimmick in the game. Astolfo has shown up a limited time in the mobile game so far, but none of the times left a positive impression

I'm gonna watch last encore just because it's fate also but my expectations aren't too high. I didn't really like the game.

I don't have a reference myself, but it sounds like the show is wildly different than the game. There are quotes from some of the VAs about how shocked they were about the directions their characters went in from the game.

And why would he not be faithful to his own writing? I mean Fate/Grand Order has an actual story. It isnt Dokkan Battle with Fate characters. It has an actual plot and might as well be a gacha VN

I did not know Apocrypha was by a different writer. From what I have seen online Grand Order is apparently supposed to be a reboot of the original Apocrypha

Strange Fake is written by the Durarara guy, so it's fantastic. Large cast, everyone gets focus, everyone is interesting. The Servants are the most creative ever. It has a MUCH MUCH better Jack the Ripper.

Oh damn Spring season is in a couple days. Gotta do my amazing write-ups soon. At least I think I do. Im pretty sure I havent already, but also feel like I might have which is weird. Its gotta be because I havent watched anything since the last one I did, but this chart is giving me deja vu

Since we're on the topic of silly crossover mobile games and gacha VNs.

I finished the Tales of Link story (well what was released in the Global version that is) before the server shutdown.

Only gonna really comment on the story since the gameplay pretty much flew over my head. The story was surprisingly good. Starts off really generic but it picks up after certain point. Though it does drag on at points. Still I would legitimately say that it's one of the better Tales stories out there.

That said, most of the Tales characters felt kinda...unimportant. Like a lot of them just felt like tag-a-longs, and it didn't feel like there were a whole lot of them in the main story, it was the event skits that they really appeared in. Except for Jade, he actually felt plot importance because he's Jade.
Though the game's original characters hold up pretty well, so I wasn't really bothered by it.

I like how the player character started off as a typical silent protagonist and then gradually became his own individual character throughout the story, more akin to Robin and Corrin from Fire Emblem.

The game's story could be thought like some kind of Tales VN because there's A LOT of text in it, to the point where it describes every action being made.

You can just look at some of the video lengths and know how long it is, and I think a lot of it is without gameplay though some videos still have it.

I think only me and raytan here on Board 8 played the game throughout its life, and raytan was the one who was REALLY into it. I was literally dumping stones on revives just to finish the story and I didn't even awaken any characters to 6* except for Spada, who was only a freebie to show how it works.

And now Tales of the Rays Global just announced its server shutdown, which is a big welp.

I just don't think Gacha is where the Tales fandom wants to be. Berseria made it clear the franchise still has the ability to be a high quality product after the mess that was Zesteria, but their lack of faith in it gave it a weak push and subpar budget. With Baba finally out of the picture, fans are really hoping for a game with the quality of Berseria and the push and budget of Zesteria.

Caligula - based on a game that was actually localized I think, but I never bought it. Might not be bad from the sound of it.

Captain Tsubasa remake - the last soccer anime I watched never came back. This is like THE soccer series though I think so it might be good

Comic Girls - sounds like a good SoL and the designs look decent

Cutie Honey Universe - never seen any of this, but might check it out.

Devils Line - uh that bondage looking guy on the cover is weird. Could be decent, but so many anime vampire stuff has been terrible

Dorei-ku the Animation - good thing Abraham Lincoln isnt alive to see this shit smgdh

FLCL Progressive - I saw the original ages ago, but I dont think I was really a big fan of it or anything. Might check it out though

Full Metal Panic! IV - Ive still never seen any of this series

FutureCard Buddyfight S5 - holy shit 5 seasons already? Damn

Gegege no Kitaro - some 80s (I think) reboot that will probably fail to sell well

The first two episodes are on Crunchyroll for premium users. Magical Girl Ore is the anime of the year, is excellent.

Asteria and Rays are actually doing fine in Japan. Both have been doing significantly better than Link, so they're still up and running over there.

I guess Rays was actually too F2P friendly, so it didn't generate much money for an already fairly niche franchise, and with Link shutting down not giving a good outlook on things, Namco might have just decided to pull the plug early on the Global version.

This does mean that there's NOTHING going for Tales in the west down the line...
