It should be renamed to "You can say whatever you want unless we don't like it". Its a false idea and it doesn't exist. I go to my job and if I get outspoken its considered taboo. People in power suck man. They are only out for themselves and pretend to actually care about others. Maybe I'm venting. I don't know. The other day I was walking out my apartment and I felt a pain in my foot for a slight second. I said the words "F*** that hurts" thats all I said. Wasn't that loud and my neighbor was standing right there and said to me "Don't use that kind of language! Its offensive." I just shook my head and walked away without saying anything. You can't say crap now a days man.

You can say whatever you want, and they can say whatever they want back. If you are employed by somebody, they can fire you for saying something they dont like, because they have the freedom to hire and fire people they want.

You never could. If anything, you're more free today than you were in the past, because then if someone didn't like what you were saying they could haul off and punch you and defend themselves in court by claiming "fighting words".

Freedom of Speech simply guarantees that the government won't punish you for your speech - that's it. It does not protect you from private corporations or individuals, who are similarly free to stop associating with you and or call you out for being an asshole.

Freedom of Speech means that someone's right to say something is protected within certain limits. A person may have to suffer consequences for saying some things, but they still have the right to say them. For example, it is against the law to yell, "FIRE," in a crowded place because someone may get injured.
