I even like its story the best, even with it being incomplete.

Gameplay wise MGSV is the best in the series. I love to rip on it, and Kojima as much as the next guy, but damn I did love my time with the game while playing it.

I hated playing through MGS4, it just wasn't a fun experience, but the story was great and piloting REX. Other than that to me though it was meh. The only game in the series I never feel like going back to

5 is better even with all of its short comings. 4 is barely a game and worse yet its has some of the best gameplay, but strips it away from you too frequently and its second half dives too much on specific sequences limiting your options and how you interact with that gameplay. then you have the story which goes in the opposite direction 5 and feels like kojima wanking him self off. its a 16-20hour game on average, but only about 4hours of that has good quality gameplay.

I've always been torn with this. I like 4 better as an overall experience, but V has better (and more) gameplay. I generally go with 4. V is just bland at times and lacks or strips back some things I play the MGS games for. 4 actually has good boss fights, for example. I have quite a few issues with both games though.

1-3 are the best.

MGS4 for me. There were a lot of things I didn't like about it but it did feel like a more finished package and still had most of things I'd want in a Metal Gear game. Chapters 1, 2, and even 4 were pretty good, but they did kind of drop the ball with 3 and 5 in a lot of ways. But the game did have some cool new ideas here and there. Plus I probably enjoyed it more than V at launch due to being 7 years younger.

MGSV was a massive disappointment for me and felt rushed out the door. I think it had mountains of potential but just fell short on almost every aspect, at least for me personally.

And I don't understand how people can say it has the best gameplay in the series. Controlling Snake feels nice and smooth but the level design is almost non existent and the game is brokenly unbalanced and easy. Not trying to attack anyone's opinion or say you can't like it, just saying I don't get it.

Gameplay wise MGSV is a repetitve garbage, andd that's what angers me the most.
They developed a perfect engine, had a great background with GZ and then they fucked it up.
It just became a chore after 10 or so hours. Every mission is basically the same.

Agreed.
There were no difficulty options even, only rehashed missions in the end.
And whenever you had trouble, you could just call for Quiet and everyone drops dead.

As for 4, it was pure fan service. Decent game in some ways, but I especially hated what they did to Raiden's character.
Oh, nobody liked Raiden, let's fix that. What should we do? MAKE HIM A BADASS SELF-MUTILATING CYBORG NINJA, woooooo.

Easily 4.

The series was written into a corner with its massive plot holes, and I didn't like the 'lulz nanomachines' explanation hand wave.

But the only people to blame for that are the rabid fans who HAD TO HAVE FUCKING ANSWERS.

Raiden seemed like a decent progression and a good parallel to the disillusioned Frank Jaeger character. I didn't really see the need for the ridiculous homoeroticism between he and Vamp, but, whatever.

4 had the best gameplay, and MGO2 was tops.

It's really hard for me to say

MGS 4, at it's peak, is the pinnacle of the series hands down. The only problem is that there are only like two acts that feature that masterpiece gameplay.

MGS V, overall, is kind of mediocre. But there was far more gameplay to it so I actually ended up playing it more I'm pretty sure.

It really makes me wish there would have been a MGS 6, cause MGS V was a decent start for a first time open world game even if it was a bit bare bones, but I don't know if Kojima would have had it in him even if he wasn't shit canned.

For all you hating on 4. You really need to give the game another chance when you feel like it. I too used to focus on its flaws a little too much but after replaying it so many times, I realized how big of a masterpiece that game truly is. It has much more replay value than V.

MGS4 was one of those games I enjoyed like hell the first time through, then once the hype wore off I realized Id been fucked.

It's the other way round for me to be honest. I enjoyed 4 just as much, if not more, on subsequent playthroughs. V I have no intention of ever replaying. Its length works against it basically, and much of that length comes from repetitive padding I feel.

4 is short when you skip the cutscenes, but it's made for replaying (as is Ground Zeroes for that matter). I felt encouraged to try and obtain the various emblems and unlockables. The Big Boss emblem particularly offered a nice challenge.

That said, I agree with your criticisms of 4, which is why it's my least favorite but one of the numbered games. The first two acts are great (and a big reason for me salvaging enjoyment from the game), but the game sort of falls apart after that, by having endless cutscenes and virtually no gameplay. The bosses are cool though. If V had bosses like that, I might reassess my ranking.

It's literally one of the worst written AAA games ever.

There was nothing good about it. Everything that was supposed to be good, came from previous games.
No character development, no deeper plot like in every MGS game, voice acting was awful compared to previous games, no good boss fights, repetitive missions and so on.

It might be because MGS4 actually had a story (And a pretty entertaining one in the Kojima-fashion). I still remember staying up until 6am one day to finish the story and learn the conclusion because I was so deeply invested. MGSV never gave me any moments close to that despite its phenomenal mechanics and technical proficiency.

Character development:
Main protagonist gets no development outside of the hospital sequence, x2.
You can basically disregard everything else in the game related to Venom and it wouldn't affect the main storyline at all. This game is like a sidequest.
Not to mention that you're the player bullshit. In every previous MGS game Snake was amazingly developed, so many radio calls, great off-topic conversations and his story was superb. Now we get this mute turd and Kiefers grumbling once every couple of hours.
Kaz basically got nothing, some obviously unfinished stuff in act2.
Huey got nothing, basic stuff same as Kaz.
Ocelot was completely disregarded.
And then there's another mute character. Tits and ass sniper walking around the desert in a bikini. Amazing development.
Skullface had potential, but they didn't make anything of it.
Code talker was one of the most annoying characters ever.
Eli was probably the best, but again, unfinished.
And nothing related to Men descending into madness and Outer Heaven rising as they advertised for the better part of the decade.

Plot? Compared to 1-3, it's utter garbage. Even 4 is better. It's basically like a sidequest in a RPG game. Nothing related to the main story. Literally nothing. Except for Eli and already mentioned sequence that repeats twice.

Voice acting? Already explained.

Boss fights? One classic Gear fight and that was it. Quiet fight was poor man's version of MGS3 and that zombie shit was disgusting.

Now let's see your counter-arguments. Shouldn't even have replied to you in the first place.

Even before TPP we all knew it was Huey. They just expanded on that a bit and it was done.
If MGSV was an ordinary game, it would be decent enough. But I have high standard for MGS games and this one can't get away with a positive grade, no chance.

If they could make such amazing games on limited ps1-2 hardware, then this one had to be a lot better. Especially considering the development time and their budget.
Which they wasted on fucking Kiefer.
