Been a thing in the UK for ages now. We've had chip and pin since about 2001 as well. I was surprised when I went to the US 5 years ago they were still taking signatures for some card payments. Mental.

We actually did have contactless payment but it died off. Cards used to be equipped with RFIDs in them but banks stopped issuing them, I guess because the RF signals they sent off were unencrypted (criminals could just walk around with a laptop and an RFID scanner and swipe credit card data in public spaces).
Contactless payment is still accepted here but only by NFC devices now (like Apple Pay). Chipped cards are basically mandatory here now but signatures are usually still required for high value purchases (over $50). The only places that don't have to use chips are gas station pumps (some places still enforce swiping but it's at their own risk as banks will not insure any funds taken from a swiped card unless it's a gas station pump). --- The only game reviewers who can be trusted are those who publish in Latin or Swahili. ... I always wondered why they made a big deal of it when it was basically something we'd already had for over a decade. But if it was brand new in the US then fair enough. you know what's truly next-gen technology?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MobilePay MobilePay is an application for phones with operating systems iOS, Android and Windows Phone. By downloading this application, users are required to connect a credit card and account information to their mobile number. Money transfers are performed by entering a mobile phone number which is registered in the system. The funds are then transferred to this account, while the amount is deducted from the sender's credit card. basically paying just by tapping a few numbers and then confirming with chosen pin on the phone. i remember one night i was supposed to pay for food but my buddy and i left my home so quickly that i forgot my card and obviously he didn't bring his either... so as a last resort we asked the owner if my buddy could just transfer the money to his phone instead via the app(i didn't bring my phone either) and the owner agreed. saved us another trip and my buddy was peeved that he had to pay again xd. so yeah, catch up, world. --- ... Does everyone accept AmEx in the US? In the UK and Europe you often get places that don't accept AmEx for some reason. no, they charge higher merchant fees so some places dont accept them. in my daily life, only one place i go doesnt accept them, but i live in a big city. its no big deal. however, they just announced that they're lowering their merchant fees, so this will change. --- NO SANA NO LIFE ...
