Is it a real comparison? In BotW it is a massive land mark that defines your plan of travel because it's so helpful. From my experience of AC they're everywhere in those games

difference is that you only unlock the map, it doesn't really do anything other than give you basic geographical information. in other games it throws dozens of icons on the map after climbing the tower for you to "find" while BOTW makes you actually explore
