Maybe something even with a gun belt holster. Or maybe something simple to put in my pocket

If you want a hip knife id go with something where the handle curve is opposite the blade curve

Pocket knives I'd go with either a small little 4" or a longer straight blade like a switch (but assisted because the trigger opening is illegal)

You've got to be careful with these models, as anything going along the old school trench knife design is illegal due to the studs on the knuckle and bottom of the handle

On duty where? Because a security guard still isn't allowed to carry military issue models or designs

The knuckles are pointed (though eroded over time) and the bottom stud (flat there but pointed during the war) is meant to be used specifically to crack skulls or cave helmets. Certain design elements for a wartime environment deemed unnecessary for civilian applications

Depends on what you're looking for. I like my Opinel No. 6; it's classy, but a little bulky. If I want pure function, I've got my Kershaw Leek - but watch your local laws; it's a "flipper" assisted-opener. California allows it, but barely.

If I had to define one as an EDC, it'd probably be my SD Swiss Army MiniChamp in Alox. Has almost all I would need any given day - blade, scissors, bottle opener - and fits nicely in my coin pocket.

I don't really look for "badass" knives.

Police

Then your knife of choice really comes down to how you want your "load out"

Id personally get a sheathed knife and strap it down facing on my best if its worn outside your regulars

If not then a hip holster, but as law enforcement I don't think a civvy size pocket knife is enough for potential situations

That seems fitting enough. If you find it to be a bit small (3.1 inch blade sounds tiny) there's another knife down the page, in the sponsored items related to this area, the 3rd one, TEK g10 or whatever. That looks like a solid blade

Also worth noting: karambits are acceptable armaments in every organization or society I've come across and they're stupidly effective at slicing. They're a backhanded blade tho so take that how you will

meanwhile the actual blade can disembowel someone but knives aren't illegal. Laws are so goofy.

A little pricey but Ive been carrying one for the past 6 or 7 years and love it. Fits nicely in my pocket, easy to open/close with one hand, super durable, and just feels great in my hand.

What's your price range? I recently got a Kershaw Oso Sweet as my EDC after talking to our resident knife and gun guy at work. I'm really happy with it but yeah, I have no idea when it comes to police work...

Further down is a listing for the SOG Trident...seems to be similar but the handle has a cut out so the folded unit become a seatbelt cutter. The added utility wouldn't be wasted in your line of work

The tanto is better for size and concealment, wakizashi is too long and not concealable.
