I had a weird sports-related dream last night. I was watching some commercials or something, which were shots of David Ortiz speaking to the camera interspersed with videos of him making embarrassing baseball plays. It didn't make much sense but I thought it was kind of funny, the idea of Papi being able to make fun of himself a stark contrast to reality

This will be my only softball post until the playoffs which everyone gets to play. Guys, I hit a double in my first career plate appearance. The sense of relief washed over me and felt beautiful. I also felt extremely relieved when I saw how some of my teammates play defense. I just want to be not the worst player and it seems like it's legitimately impossible for that to happen. However one of our guys did hit one off the wall at 301 feet which was completely insane

I don't think I could possibly hit one that far, even if you gave me the meatiest pitch ever. But it probably doesn't matter in softball, I imagine anything that gets over an OF's head is a "home run". Still must be frustrating to be so close to a legit homer

The ball is heavier than you might think so hitting for power isn't easy. In my playing days I was far more interested in contact than power because if you can put the bat on the ball in a non professional game you've probably got like a 40% chance at getting on base at least. I did kind of rip that double but nowhere near 300 feet, just a liner down the line. I did strike out in my second PA and then in my third I almost beat out an infield single which goes to my point about high batting averages on balls in play.

This is slow-pitch, right?

I was gonna say it's pretty easy to make contact in slow-pitch, but I think I've struck out a few times before, so maybe not. I should try it out for myself

It's slow pitch yeah. There were a lot more strikeouts than I was expecting and a semi high percentage of the outs were made on baserunning blunders. It's easy to make contact but it's easy to strike out because fouls and swing throughs both count for two strikes and you can strike out on a foul ball

So far this season the first two games were called off due to weather. I work more with pitchers on the team, I tell them that since fouls can cause a strike out pitching more on the outside when getting the last strike because if they don't swing historically the ump calls a strike. If they make contact it most likely goes foul.

The Avs are officially done. They totally fell apart in game 6 but I gotta look at the bright side, they made the playoffs one year after being one of the worst teams in history, and once they got there they gave the Preds more fight than anyone expected. The Duchene trade paid off already and might get even better, the future's looking up.

I'm on the Sixers and Knights bandwagons now

Pens are gonna threepeat. Btw, classy of Philadelphia to throw trash on the ice because they don't understand the rules or recognize one of their own diving like he was trying out for the Olympics. If Crosby dove like that, we'd never hear the end of it. By the way, not a trip if you touch the puck first. But none of that matters. The league rigs it for Pittsburgh just like they rigged the lottery draft, Crosby is a whiner, etc etc.

You know how the Warriors are officially "Golden State"? I always thought that was odd. They're the only team like that in the big four that doesn't have a city or state name. I wonder, would other teams be allowed to rename like that if they wanted? What would you want one of your teams to go by if they did that?

I think "Rocky Mountain Avalanche" doesn't sound half-bad, but I can't think of any good ones for the other three. Going the Warriors route, "Centennial State" doesn't fit with any of them

Yeah, kind of forgot about them, but that's like... a large region. In theory, a New England team wouldn't have to be in Boston/MA, but a Golden State team would have to be California. I was talking more about a name specific to the city or state they're based in. Of course, my Rocky Mountain example isn't very good then since that also comprises multiple states

It's definitely the best convenient "real food" meal and one of the best deli area items. Can you believe they sell little plain sliced-bread sandwiches in the deli for like $4? What a rip-off. Sandwiches are already one of the ultimate lazy person foods! And they taste better freshly-made anyway, there isn't really a good way to store whole sandwiches since they're a mix of cold and room-temp ingredients.

I like the deli sandwiches too for the most part, but you definitely want to get the ones they made that day. I'm not generally a stickler for that kind of stuff but the difference in quality is immense. I say this as I have an unopened deli sub in the fridge that I bought on Saturday.
