Streets of Rage 2 and 3 were among my favorite games ever, though it got frustrating when like 5 ninjas are attacking you and the train is rapidly heading towards you.

yes I do it's too bad these things will never come back as something big anymore. I tried playing DFO but it got mechanisms that didn't pan out so well for me plus the community was dead.

Guardian Heroes on Saturn is probably my favorite console game of all time. I beat it well over 100 times (it has like 64 or 128 endings or something)

It seems like they should be super easy to make now, so I'm surprised there aren't a ton of indie ones.

My favorites growing up were Streets of Rage 2, Final Fight 2 (I like it better than the first one), and Turtles in Time

I got that on my Xbox but I can't seem to get into it. Something about the plane-jumping mechanic just doesn't sit well with me

Capcom used to be the king of side scrollers in the '90s. Final Fight seres, Cadillac and Dinosaurs, AvP, and my personal favorite: Armored Warriors/ Powered Gear.

yeah not sure if it would play well today for people the first time. in the end i liked the plane jumping mechanic but it certainly does date the feel of it.

Literally DFO but the community is dead and the game has it's up and downs. Feels like a gacha game.

With the surge of excellent indie side scrolling games, this seems like the perfect kind of project to tackle. I'd love a modern take on a game like Final Fight.

not really since there are enough contemporary games to kill the itch.

eg. fight n rage as mentioned above or river city ransom underground:

Last one I played was final fight 2 on the snes. I got passed rolento and realized how boring it really is now. Great stress relief back in the day as a kid, but mind numbingly boring now.

From what I can remember, king of the monsters 2 was a favorite, sonic blast man 2 was also. Games these days need a little bit more, last one I really enjoyed was mk shaolin monks.

pretty cool level up system, it was quite popular too in my arcade ground. abusing block invincibility is the key for winning the game.
