The problem is that people who don't give a shit about racism have a very different understanding of racism than the people who do give a shit. And anytime the latter group tries to explain it, the former doesn't care because they don't give a shit.

I get annoyed with anyone talking about racism these days. There are so many places in the world where bigotry is rampant and horrifying.

I saw some guy flip out on some chick in a clothes store and start screaming about racism, just because she wouldn't let him use the broken bathroom. It was embarrassing.

While I'm not belittling those who are suffering from bigotry, too many people are crying wolf and looking for reasons to be offended.

I'd say the problem with that video is that it simplifies the issue to be just about racism when in reality online gaming is toxic in just about every context. Everyone gets treated by shit in online games. Everyone. To be fair, the N word is often a go to insult for a lot of scumbags online(especially kids) so if you're black I can see how that would hit you harder then it would hit someone else but generally people don't call people the N word because they know they are black and are trying to be racist, they do it because they are idiots that call everyone that. He also kind of jumps the shark in the end of the video when he says racists should all be banned from video games. That's a pretty bullshit thing to argue. I mean, what about other forms of bigotry? Like, say, homophobia? Might as fucking ban everyone.

I'd be fine with that. People should actually be creative about how they talk shit.

It is difficult to change though. Especially if its with voice chat and goes unrecorded because then its just one person's word against another's. Its not a perfect solution, but muting people is definitely the easiest.

I think this is true too. Assholes are gonna be assholes, especially when they're anonymous. If they're not calling you the N word, they're calling you a different insult anyway. Hell, they'll probably keep calling you the N word whether they know your race or not. A lot of dudes are just mean people and being anonymous with no consequences means they'll say anything to aggravate you, no matter how offensive.

I hang out with them. My black friends which i just call friends are a gaming group and just talk about video games. Theyre not all black either and all the rest arnt just white.

Mostly because it's annoying. Haven't we proven time and time again their fears are mostly BS? Blacks are not heavily discriminated against in this country and haven't in decades.
