People act like it's a masterpiece that was torn from their hands like a sadistic slavedriver stealing a baby from a crying mother but I bet you a dollar for donuts that had a full game been made and released, people would be disappointed

"Lets get a guy who makes movies and another guy who makes movie like games and hates horror to slap together a horror game and sell it using a cold franchise name" sounds like a recipie for disaster.

Sure as a loose proof of concept with no real pathos or gameplay you can show off cool imagery you can get away with it. So the teaser worked, but I suspect the reality was either going to be:

1. Millions of fans love the teaser then get mad that no full game comes. Forever pondering "What could have been?"

or 2. thousands of fans play the full game and think it's poop and get furious.

And 1 is a better scenario IMO. We've seen Watchdogs, No Man's Sky, Mighty Number 9, Metroid other Men, RollerCoaster Tycoon 4, Duke Nukem Forever, Black Mirror, Aliens Colonial Marines etc have all seen scenario 2

I think Shenmue 3 is going to end up the same way. So is System Shock 3.

Sure some games have pulled it off. Like X-com or The Last Guardian but notice they weren't as hyped nor trying to sell themselves on visuals and big names. Just on being good games.

Not to mention at the same time, the popularity of P.T led to influencing the design of things like REVII which was fantastic.

I find it hard to believe a full game of Silent Hills would have been better than REVII.

And I'm a Silent Hill fanboy.

Some of those games ended up in a slightly different situation than just being incredibly overhyped though. Duke Nukem Forever was fucked because it was in development hell. Once it went to hell, it couldnt ever come back.

Eh, I'd rather it have had a chance than to never see what could've been. Best case scenario, we get a great game, worst case scenario, we get a shitty game that we don't have to play.

This topic is silly considering Konami these days.

Are you expecting them to take Silent Hill back to its roots or something? Konami is so bad it's actually more likely they would make "Silent Hill Royale" and everyone is just running around with paid Pyramid Head outfits.

PT was one of the last things they did that looked potentially interesting.

Doesn't quite fit the pattern considered it got ace reviews, sold chunks and was beloved by millions of people.

The haters are a very vocal minority, but they are a true minority.

It also wasn't bringing back an old franchise, it was just the latest installment.
