It's a given that he'll be fired at this point, but I really don't get why: It just gives more fodder for Democrats in the midterms when Republicans are already in for an uphill battle for congress while the Senate is becoming increasingly competitive due to the TN/WV races giving Dems a big bone to work with.

Trump does himself no favors. It just makes him look more corrupt, provides more Nixon parallels, and gives Dems a justifiable reason to label him guilty since he's actively impeding his own investigation.

like for real why give his political opponents a tangible reason to parade around

he can deny guilt now because he's simply being investigated

but if he dismantles the investigation, any reasonable person is going to assume guilt because there's no other reason to dismantle an investigation targeting yourself beyond you attempting to evade the consequences of what you did to get investigated to begin with (or attempting to evade what else they might find)

i wouldn't be mad because i'm a liberal that would love to watch trump's presidency implode, something that firing rosenstein will aide in doing. which is why I'm confused, he's giving me what i want by speedrunning the "Corrupt Politician" class

Republicans in Congress are spineless and I doubt that many of them would vote to impeach/convict Trump if he tried to fire Rosenstein or obstruct justice in some other manner. And Democrats wouldn't have the votes to impeach/convict him on their own even if they did take back the House and Senate this year, so the way I see it, Trump is immune to any consequences.

Firing Rosenstein is more effective than firing Mueller, because you can put a loyalist in charge of him who just doesn't approve funding/warrants/etc.

Of course, that only works as long as people don't realize that.

He's the "you're fired" guy who can't even fire people, he has to use Twitter or have Kelly fire people.

Also, Trump would fire Rosenstein because he's the one who has the power to fire Mueller. He could fire Rosenstein and hope his replacement will fire Mueller, and if the next guy doesn't, Trump can fire him too, and repeat that until he finds someone who will fire Mueller. It's what Nixon did during the Saturday night massacre.

Im pretty sure a sizeable chunk of the FBI would be glad to work for free or discounted rates considering Trump has made a mockery of the agency. Besides, who is to say the guy he puts in charge wont turn on him down the road, its happened to almost every other appointee.

The "strategic purpose" is simply to get rid of Mueller. Trump isn't anywhere near smart enough to think about what happens after that. He clearly thought the Russia investigation was done when he fired Comey, and we all see where that got him.
