The only reason I've kept it around for so long was to play older games on it.
I haven't had the time to play any older games for quite a while now which saddens me.
I love my old games and everyday I feel like I'd like to show them some love again but can't due to insufficient amount of free time.

What should I do PotD? You're my only hope!

I've been having this dilemma too lately. They have stuff to make it look good on an HDTV, but AFAIK the only stuff that works well almost costs as much as a new TV itself. The Framemeister is like $400, that's about what a 40 inch TV costs. Crazy.

My plan is tentatively to binge play all my remaining (as in unbeaten) old games and then get rid of the CRT. You could try the same, but it might not work if you have a lot of stuff you haven't played. Also it will suck if you just want to replay something.

How big and how old is it? You could try getting rid of it and going for a newer and smaller one, but I don't know if it would be much difference. Those things were pretty much all heavy and bulky, even the later models.

Might be a good idea to trade for a newer one anyway, in case your current one dies. Pretty much if you ever think you could end up getting another CRT, for any reason, it's better to do it sooner than later since they'll just continue to get harder and harder to find.

This is also a factor, tbh. Granted, some recent lightgun games/ports just use other gaming peripherals, like the Wii and PS Move, so the actual tv doesn't affect those. However all of my ps2 stuff (and my few ps1 lightgun games) need the older tvs.

Do people really care that much about light gun games? It sucks they don't work on modern TVs, but they're only fun for about five minutes anyway. I'd gladly take the L there for the much nicer TVs we have now.

Actually, most lightgun games are closer to 30 minutes in length, not just 5. And it's not an either/or. The older systems are hooked up to the CRT, the newer ones are with a newer TV.

My biggest problem with early 3d games on HDTVs is they look very pixelated, mainly cause they were designed for 360i/480i TVs. And those old games just dont have the fine details that the newer HD 3d games which put higher pixel counts on the textures.
Gen 4 games look fine as they were already designed with pixel art anyways (some look bad, but most lool fine)

I had it apart to disable the security chip. I also removed the CPU and put in a socket so I could see if there was any difference in performance between the stock chip and the CPU from a Nintendo VS arcade board
