Its probably because most popular tv shows can be found now on hulu (the day after they air) or netflix or hbo go.

I don't mind commercials. As a sports fan, it's just something that will never go away so you come to accept them. The cable companies problem is that the content is all already on hulu, hbo, netflix, and all that.

I'm just kind of a casual sports fan and if I want to watch a game I just head on over to the nearest sports bar and watch it there. Sometimes I'll get a beer, too. There is no reason for me to pay $150 a month when I can go out to a sports bar to watch games and buy a $5 beer every fucking day of the month for the same price (there are not sports games I want to watch every day of the month, I'm just saying worst case scenario heading out to a sports bar every day is still cheaper than paying for cable).

You mean you DON'T want to pay 100 bucks a month to get hundreds of channels you'll never watch? Plus with 10 minutes of commercials per half hour of programming? Come on that's premium quality service dude.

I know that when I sit down to watch a half hour long program, I look forward to literally 10 minutes of it being taken up by obnoxious ads.

There's 10 minutes of commercial for 20 minutes of programming. It's not consecutive.

Essentially the only thing keeping cable alive nowadays is live sports and is the sole reason that many haven't cut the cord. And ironically enough, the millions of people that don't give a shit about live sports and balk at the cost of cable that's largely inflated to have the various sports channels is a major sticking point for people that want to cut the cord.

So it's saving and damning cable.

That being said, if Ajit Pai announced tomorrow that the FCC was mandating that all commercials and all channels had to be the same volume, I'd be slightly okay with him.

It's insane how big a price different cable and a streaming service is.

I was paying just about 200 dollars a month for internet and cable. Internet alone was 60, so cable is basically 140 dollars for one month.

Netflix is like what, 12 bucks or something?

140 dollars.

12 dollars.

That's almost 12 times as expensive.

Is this really such a mystery? It's cost. If they came out with a 10 dollar cable plan, then I'd buy it. But it's not 10 dollars. It's 140 dollars. The price difference is so astronomical that it's mind blowing, really.

Basically this. Theres just not that much on cable that I care to spend that much money on. Its ridiculously overpriced for the service you get. If 1/2 the program is commercials then the service should be free. But they expect me to pay 12x the price AND be subjected to commercials too?

Good luck with that archaic business plan.

Cable companies are shit corporations that don't deserve anyone's money. They have agreements to stay out of each other's turf so there's no competition. This allows them to drastically inflate prices. Their employees' reasoning for subscribing is "they treat their workers well and have great benefits, I love working for them". Good for you but that's a terrible sales pitch because it doesn't benefit the customers.

I hope they all go bankrupt.

The way cable companies operate is sometimes actively hostile to consumers, and with alternative options popping up I would think most people would jump at an opportunity to sidestep their bullshit. It's just taking older generations longer to adapt newer technologies like streaming.

The accessibility of the internet is what did it.

You have so many devices, sites, online streaming services and other easily available options to get the same service minus the commercials and over priced tv bundles and inconvenient time slots for shows.

It's a different time, cable itself is a relic of the past now especially in its current format.

High prices, inconsistent bills, and poor customer service. Not too mention the monopoly these guys have.

Time Warner/Spectrum is awful. I absolutely hate dealing with them and hate the fact that I either get their internet or Verizon DSL since FiOS isnt available in my area just yet.

Most shows can be streamed nowadays anyway.

I use Spectrum and I'm happy with them although I also have Cox, AT&T and Comcast in the area as competition.

I went with Spectrum as they had the best offering/price for gaming and I haven't had any problems. I don't know what it's like for people with Spectrum in a monopoly.

Not that I like defending cable companies, but the other side can be entitled brats in their own right. Bawking about scheduled shows, ads, and any cost higher than $12 a month (notice how people aren't factoring in the cost of the internet plan into things) makes it sound like the millennial business model is everything I want for free.

Hard to make a living doing that.

orr do what my dad does; start the game like an hour (give or take) late and just fast forward through the commercials via DVR. you'll end up live just as the final minutes of the event are going on, so you won't be out of the loop when a sweet game-winning home run is hit.

Speaking of Spectrum, I guess they have a streaming service now but I have no interest.

I don't pay for cable;
No interest in the ads.
No interest in the superfluous channels.
No interest in most of my money going towards the sports networks over the shit I actually watch. I would rather subsidize youtubers I like through patreon/Red.
No interest in paying extra fees to "rent' the box necessary to watch it.

In the early 1900s shoveling horse shit in streets of New York City was a decent way to make a living. Its impossible to make a living doing that now.

Comparing Netflix alone to cable is very disingenuous.

they should sell it to you for way cheaper. like give you your basics for free. then charge you like $1 per channel you want. they can still keep packages for people that want more but let people that don't want many channels pick what they want.

if i could do that i'd get like 20 channels and my basics. i mostly just want sports and then some of the popular channels for shows and just record them since i'm never home when shows are on. but since i can't i just don't really watch much and just stream when i do.
