43 y/o Wells Fargo Exec, Jennifer Riordan was kileld after she was almost SUCKED OUT of her Southwest Airlines flight window following a midair explosion

The mother of 2 from New Mexico was returning from a business aboard the New York to Dallas flight when the plane's left engine exploded sending shrapnel flying into a window next to her seat.

Passengers scrambled to drag the woman back inside the aircraft and she was rushed to hospital immediately but authorities later confirmed she had died..

Alfred Tumlinson said he saw a man in a cowboy hat rush forward a few roows to grab the lady to pull her back in and another gentleman came over to help her get back in

Passenger Eric Zilbert said "From her waist above, she was outside of the plane".

They struggled to plug the hole while giving the badly injured woman CPR

Amanda Bourman said she was asleep near the back when she heard the noise as everybody was crying and upset. She said "passengers kept yelling to people, It's OK! We're going to do this!"

The Boeing 737-700 was traveling at 32,500ft before the engine on the left side of the plane exploded.

Hero pilot, Tammie Jo Shults brought the down down quickly and saefly after the crash as she saved many lives that day.

Some people, such as Marty Martinez had paid $8 WIFI just to say their last goodbyes as they thought they were going to die..one passenger even suffered a heart attack thinking they would crash.

A investigation will now be conducted to see what caused the engine to blow out.

Shit happens. It sucks and my condolences to her family, but you can die anytime. Driving home from work and a driver loses control and careens into your car, killing you. You can suffer a heart attack while at the gym and flat-line before help arrives. You can be walking out to your car with groceries and a falling toilet seat from outer-space kills you. If you limit your life based on what can kill you, you're not living.

Eh, that's kinda freaky. While planes are likely no more dangerous than a lot of transport, their incidents are always higher profile and they tend to get their own disaster movies.

That's the thing when you are inside something that has different pressure levels to its surroundings. If the pressure is strong enough, it doesn't matter how big the hole is, you will get sucked through it.

While the chance of an accident happening in the air is much lower than on the road (with obvious variables like amount you drive or fly) the likelihood of you surviving an accident on the road is much higher than something happening 40,000 feet in the air. While it may frighten other passengers, I often wonder if a parachute is considered an acceptable carry-on.

Even though they're tested on it, it doesn't happen very often. And even after testing, some pilots still can't land a plane safely. Whether it's nerves, not expierenced enough, or it would have been impossible or near impossible for even better pilots to land it, they might not be able to do it. But when it came down to her, she was able to land the plane safely. And to all the people on the plane, she's a hero. So, that's why, I guess.

When I first heard about what happened, the Twilight Zone episode with the gremlin was my first thought as well. I guess that I didn't want to believe it was true until I heard the rest of the story.

You must be really bad at checking in on time because I have never had a seat I didn't want on a Southwest flight. Their system is good and even if on the off chance you do get a bad seat you probably didn't pay much for it. Their flights are ludicrous cheap.

I don't fly southwest because I can afford flights that allow me to choose my seat when I buy my ticket.

I can too but they are convenient, cheap, reliable, allow you to change your flight whenever you want, and don't have a garbage baggage policy. Also, why talk smack about them if you don't even fly with them?

My fear of flying is more related to my epilepsy than anything. Having a seizure mid flight would be horrifying for people, being restrained tends to make seizures more violent as well, and having to endure the rest of the flight, departure, baggage claim, etc after having a seizure would be absolutely miserable.
