I can understand being stuck with a roommate because you live in an expensive area or if you're not home much and want to split costs. Otherwise, I don't get it.

And I like not paying full price for rent and bills. But I know some people room with others for that and/or because they were already friends. If my girlfriend counts then I do. Back when I lived in the dorms at university I had two different room mates which I didnt really interact with other than the odd greeting.

I don't have roommates anymore, but it is the aspect I miss the most. Even though they could be a pain in the ass sometimes. Even the roommates I had that I never developed a friendship with, were still fun to have at times. I remember one guy I was living with, we worked on totally different shifts so we almost never had words. Yet we played through this entire game of Zelda, almost continuously. I'd get home and he'd be passed out in the middle of a dungeon, and I'd resume where he left off. At the end he demanded that we be together to beat the final dungeon. It was so romantic. Some day I will write a series of Young Adult novels about it and it will be a bigger hit than Twilight.
