Like what the statistics for call-ins that Microsoft and Sony are holding.

I feel the consoles were sort of ahead of their time. They delivered HD graphics but were too intensive for 90nm fabrication.

I remember heating my whole room up in the summer when I had a lengthy gaming session on my PS3.

It's over 50% on the 360 according to some sources:

https://consumerist.com/2009/08/17/xbox-360-failure-rate-is-542-percent-game-informer-finds/

https://www.google.ca/amp/s/gizmodo.com/5344302/microsoft-responds-to-542-xbox-360-failure-rate-claim-doesnt-dispute-it/amp

Which I honestly find believable with how rampant the issues seemed to be. I do not know a single person who owned a 360 who didn't not have it fail at least once.

My one and only 360 had 3 RRoDs, only on the last time did they install something to prevent it.

I bought an early PS3 model a year or so ago, it's disc drive is already somewhat broken in that it won't play dual layered discs and I've only played like 8 games on it.

damn I had heard it was only 30%, which is still too damn high. my brother never had one fail on him though. his first one he gave to me when he upgraded to a newer model. thats the one that stopped reading discs for me (I probably dropped it at some point, I drank and took it over to my friends house often) and his second one stopped working due to a cat pissing on it.

My launch PS3 lasted 6 years until it failed on me. It was heavily used in that time period though so I have no problem with having to get another one. I figure if that had been a $600 computer that lasted 6 years before needing to be replaced then it's a great deal.

I actually never had an issue with my 360 when I had it

My PS3 (which I've had since 2010) feels like it's ready to go though, discs don't read well, the hard drive feels slow, games just crash rather often

I bet 200% of the 360s broke. That sounds impossible, but consider this: the ones sent in for repair were fixed, let loose as a "refurb" and then sent back a short while later after they broke again. Failure reports probably account for more than there are actual serial numbers from the first year's worth.

I had one of those Halo 3 green 360's. Everything was going along fine from 2008? until 2012. 4 years of not really that much use. Red Light of death. Mine wasn't a ring. E74 or something like that. Oh, look what I found. Isn't this a laugh?

https://support.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-360/errors/error-code-e74
Note The warranty period for the E74 error is three years from the original purchase date of the console. If your console is not covered by the three-year warranty period, you can still get your console repaired for a fee.

So yeah, I shipped my console to Microsoft's place in Mexico where they do the repairs for $100. After it came back, I finished the playthrough of what I was playing, and said fuck you to the Xbox 360, never played it again.

As for the PS3, luckily mine was the slim.

Everyone I knew who had a 360 did not have an issue with a red ring, including myself.

My first 360 (2006 to 2010) experienced the Red Ring of Death. My current 360 (2010 to present) is still going strong, though. My one and only PS3 (2010 to present) is also chugging along with no issues.

It does not surprise me that the 360 failure rate is so high. The local game stores always had stacks of the damn things behind the counter.

The most conservative figures I could find had the 360's failure rate around at least triple the PS3's.

I had more problems with my PS2 having DREs than problems with the PS3. I didn't play the PS3 near as much though and haven't fired it up in awhile.
