He doesn't know what kind of defenses Orochimaru has, so a fast, efficient hard to deal with move (for most ninja, anyway) is a good way to probe his defenses and form a strategy to use from there. Unfortunately the 3rd Hokage has shit endurance and Orochimaru is full of surprises and lethal moves, ~~so monkey boi is kinda fucked no matter what he does.~~ Pretty much. You dont open up by launching half your chakra at him in some super move. That said yeah definitely less impressive offensively than all other Hokage except ~~Tsunade who has nothing but regen and brute strength really.~~ 1st could take down any given one of the Five major villages on his own. Second could too if he used Impure world reincarnation. Fourth can ~~If he has half of kurama but that was only as he was dying/a recincsfnsgion so lets not count that~~ Still could defeat the majority of characters in the series. Naruto could bust all five villages on his own at his prime. Hell he could solo the whole rest of the planet if he felt like it(Sasuke not withstanding). Not at the exact same time but obviously the entire planet would not be fighting him at the same time. Nearly limitless chakra(just give Kyuubi a bit to recharge between nuking villages. Sage Naruto even if without Kyuubi chakra for a bit is still quite powerful if he gets attacked when Kyuubi needs a little time to recharge. Kakashi....well he can ~~Absolutely wreck fucking anyone with maybe five exceptions tops when he has Both Sharingan and Obitos chakra~~ but that was a brief one time thing so lets not count it.
