There's a lot here that looks good, but a lot that worries me. My biggest problem with BBS and DDD was that there were too many systems piled on, and in DDD so much so to the point that that game is a chore to play, and I've never actually finished a playthrough. I see one of those dream dog things in one of those gameplay clips, and that has me really worried that the Pokemon systems will be in this game, and that's a big turnoff. KH2 is such a finely crafted experience, but that was also so long ago that I don't think they can top it. KH2 is so well made that they might not have even realized what they had when they made it, and that's why BBS and DDD just don't stack up to it. I don't have a PS4, so I haven't played 0.2, but I hear that game also had some problems with the battle system.

Oh well, it sounds like we're getting the release date for this game pretty soon, so we won't have to wait too much longer. I'm expecting it to be good, but just good, not great.

I just got the plat for KH2 in the PS4 collection not too long ago. I've always appreciated the game but this playthrough in particular really boosted it to one of my all time favorites. Everything is so fluid and well designed and the bosses are top-notch. I enjoyed BBS and DDD but like you said, there's a lot in those games that drag the experience down. I'm sure I'll enjoy 3 as well, but I really want it to truly deliver and be an improvement over 2.

I don't think they've said anything about when they're announcing the release date, just that the release window of 2018 still stands.

I'm pretty sure this is the first official trailer for any KH 3 footage. So yeah I would say it's coming out, it's not like the series has been dead since KH 2. We just have had a lot of games between the two that weren't the true sequel we wanted.

If KH3 had come out 10 years ago, I'd probably care. As is, I can't even muster up the effort to give the illusion of giving a single solitary fuck.

The problem I see here is some folk are that obsessed with Kingdom Hearts 2 they want every entry after that to be like it yet it'll never be topped due to nostalgia.

From a gameplay point of view perhaps it was. On other fronts not so much and that's why I actually like Kingdom Hearts better. Still I enjoyed Kingdom Hearts 2. Even more so with the Final Mix version.

I don't have a PS4, so I haven't played 0.2, but I hear that game also had some problems with the battle system.

For the most part I enjoyed 0.2. Mind you I don't go through every bit of gameplay and compare it to a 10+ year old game.

KH2: FM+ is easily one of if not the best game in the series. Any KH fan will tell you that. A few games in the series were simply bad. Not because they weren't KH2. Because they genuinely sucked when compared to not only the KH series, but video games as a whole. I'm sorry but nostalgia goggles is not the issue here. I've been gaming over 20 years and know it when I see it. This isn't the case. Couldn't disagree more. KH2 had a lot going for it. The fans want to have that level of quality experience and more in the third game. Simple as that. We want a good game.
I am personally very averse to the attempt at nostalgia that Nintendo shoves into every new game they come out with. So yea, nostalgia pandering drives me nuts.

We just have different tastes. I love both Witcher 3 and KH2. Played them both over 150 hours. Calling my preference nostalgia is where I have the issue. I am able to separate myself from my love for a series and call the latest game a piece of shit without any hesitation. I've played many many RPGs over the past 20 years. KH2 is an excellent action RPG, and many of the fans are lining up for KH3 for that reason whether you like the game or not. The series wouldn't be as popular as it is if they didn't generate good games.
It's a clear difference of opinion. It is possible for older games to still have good qualities and stand the test of time or remakes wouldn't exist. But we're obviously not going to get anywhere spinning our wheels. I've already made my stance clear. There's not anything else that I care to say about it.
