They still haven't adapted most of it. The Christian Cinematic Universe has a long way to go to cover the whole book

I mean, there's a LOT of literature that you cannot understand unless you've read the Bible.

Same goes for literature in other countries and their religions. A lot of Japanese media requires some understanding of Buddhism and/or Shintoism to appreciate.

https://www.gq.com/story/21-books-you-dont-have-to-read
Article in a nutshell:
"Classic Book is 'problematic' somehow. Read Other Book instead, which may have fuck all to do with the classic I'm comparing it to, but may or may not have lesbian subtext!"

Repeat 19 more times, with Huck Finn taking two spots for some reason.

Also...

I actually love Lonesome Dove, but I'm convinced that the cowboy mythos, with its rigid masculine emotional landscape, glorification of guns and destruction, and misogynistic gender roles, is a major factor in the degradation of America.

GQ has gotten a lot less G lately...

Disregarding classic literature because it hurts your modern sensibilities is the dumbest thing.

heard of them all but only read Narnia. if the others are as easily followed as Narnia, I'm probably not gonna see how reading the Bible was a prerequisite.

Because it's not. That's like saying you need to have read a shit ton of Sumerian poetry like the Epic of Gilgamesh in order to understand the Old Testament

The Bible is pretty boring so I can understand this. The only interesting parts are Exodus, some of Genesis, some of Revelation, the Gospel, and some of the major and minor prophets books but I can't remember which ones.

Lots of contradictions, lack of a fluid narrative, God character is a Mary Sue and it's insulting to the reader to be told not to question God but even if we did it's impossible to understand God fully, repeated versions of the same events in the second act and they have discrepancies galore. Also illogical at times, such as days passing by prior to the sun coming into existence.

The Bible is worth reading, if you want some insight into what followers of the Abrahamic religions believe. There are more than a billion Christians and even though they don't all believe the exact same things, the Bible still provides a framework for them.

If nothing else, reading the Bible has made it easier for me to dispute their claims when they aren't aware of the various contradictions and fallacies that exist.

Put the Qur'an on that list and then I'd be impressed. Everyone these days can get away with bashing the bible and Christianity. It is definitely more difficult to do in regards to Islam due to numerous reasons.
