18 y/o Heifer, Keziah Daum says she has NO REGRETS for wearing a traditional chinese dress to Prom and said she'd DO IT AGAIN!!

She was on Good Morning America talk about the backlash since she posted those photos wearing a red qipao, an outfit dating back to the 17th century

She never thought those pictures would go viral but said she would do it again despite the backlash. She said "I never imagined a simple rite or passage as a prom would cause a discussion reaching many parts of the world. Perhaps it is an important discussion we need to have"

While many were angered, others said her posting in a prayer was the most disrespectful to Chinese culture

Jeremy Lam said "They were wearing a dress and using a stereotyped Chinese posture without acknowleding the history behind that piece of clothing". He was the first to be outraged by this writing "My culture is NOT your goddamn prom dress".

She claims however that she was bowing with their hands clasped palm to palm inspired by Youtuber Ethan Klein and his phrase "Papa Bless" and said it had nothing to do with race or racial slurs

Her mother, Melissa Dawes mimicked her daughte'rs comments and said "I'm getting questions about the photos of the kids posing. Not justifying, just giving you context. The pose is called Papa Bleess from H3H3 productions"

Kezia said she bought the dress at a vintage shop and was unaware of the history of it which became a symbol of "female empowerment" which made her love it even more

I always loved how a qipao looks. Elegant looking, yet very tight-fitting, with a long slit on the side to show off legs. It's just...perfect.

My best friends are Chinese, and like a decade ago they gave my gf (wife now) a qipao as a gift. They clearly didn't seem to give a shit about it being "appropriated" by her.

You have your bloodline heritage type thing and then you have your nationality. Two different things. You can have full Japanese blood and be born in America, you are now American (nationality) and Japanese (heritage). Considering that like 99% of Americans (nationality) are not truly American (heritage), I would have thought this might have been an easy thing for most people to grasp.

The qipao is the most beautiful dress in the world and she and lots of women look beautiful in it. The pose was bad though.

all the chinese (living in china) i've asked including my neighbor in the US love that she wore it and think she look great in it. They don't mind the pose either.

It does seem that a number of Chinese people in China think it's great that their fashion is making it into the West.
