we're already seeing an effort to try and remove his name from history and wipe out any record he had any impact on anything

but do you agree or disagree with it?

Companies have always done this when it comes out that somebody famous committed some major criminal offense. They try to unperson them as hard and fast as possible.

Just because someone was a shitty person doesn't mean everything they did in their life was bad.

People need to seperate the things.

Of course it's "fair," but fairness is a weird way of looking at it. Whether or not it's beneficial, which might be debatable, it's totally "fair."

How and why? In the case of somebody like Lance Armstrong, his scandal was responsible for his personal success. In the case of Jerry Sandusky, his scandal was overlooking things happening on his team which was part of his job. Bill Cosby's failings are entirely personal. He didn't become successful because he raped women. It (presumably) didn't make him a better actor or entertainer. His career didn't benefit from it. Of course, there are some awards concerning his personal character which should be disregarded, but the bulk concerning his career should stay intact.

Because "fairness" has nothing to do with it? Whether or not we should erase his achievements, which is something that can reasonably be debated, has nothing to do with "fairness."

Whether or not fairness should motivate the decision doesn't answer why you think it's fair in the first place.

Why should everyone else that worked to produce his shows and specials have their name and career erased just because one guy was deranged and abused women

The character and the man are not the same thing. Enjoy the entertainment if you enjoy it, and throw the man in jail.

Because he's a bad person. That's why it's fair. But again, if you're asking whether or not we should erase his achievements based on something arbitrary like fairness, you're asking the wrong question.

He didn't win his awards for being a good person, he won them for being a good comedian or good entertainer. There are no "Nice Guy" awards and, if there were, it would probably just be an incel thing.

As for the issue of fairness, nothing here really touches on it. While fairness can be arbitrary, the definition can't be stretched far enough to justify this.

LOL @ NMB wanting to disregard someone else's achievements.

What exactly have you done with your life, NMB? You have achieved exactly nothing. You're 28 and never even had a job. If anyone's life is a colossal failure, it's your own.

Mixed feelings.

He's a total POS, but his shows were pretty good; and that, my friends, was far from just HIS achievement. There are a lot of folks involved in a show.

So.... I guess, in my case, I don't really care how people view his achievements as long as they recognize he's absolute scum despite them.

He's *personally* received many awards and accolades. While you could argue him accepting those awards raises the prestige and visibility of everything he's done over the years, it's not as big of a thing since he hasn't done anything in ages. These days it'd just be checks for residuals.
