The Silver Knight Spear is pretty much the only Divine weapon worth a damn since it's already imbued with Divine damage while not sacrificing physical damage.

Same. Bloodborne and 3 really perfected the craft

Not to say DkS1 is bad, it's phenomenal in fact, but 3 is my go to when I want to play a souls game

I'm playing it for the first time too, ragequit last night after getting to Blighttown for the first time. Doesn't seem too hard yet, but I ragequit because I didn't realise that lighting a bonfire doesn't link you to it, you have to actually sit at it. so when I died I'm back at Firelink, because I went back there after the big teethy guy to uncurse myself.

I like the game. I really do like it, but there's little niggles that make me struggle to call it a GREAT game. Curse is a stupid concept, because it means you need to backtrack for a significant portion of time unless you've got one particular item. That's not hard, it's just tedious. The "open world" concept does feel great, but as long as you've got SOME concept of where to go; telling me that the bell is "below" when I'm next to two separate routes that go down, that are both wrong and go to a dead end until later in the game is just a sort of "ha ha got you" issue. Which I wouldn't mind too much, but it robs from the atmosphere when you have to go there later, and it's all the same except all the bosses and minibosses aren't there. Both these things just bring the flow of the game to an abrupt halt.

Agreed. Theres lame shit to put up with in the original DS. Curse is garbage. And the getting around thing can outright screw you. Not just with the bonfire thing but also dead ends. I struggled through the entire catacombs and tomb only to hit a dead end and with no way out other than to struggle all the way back.

If you didn't know, in Blighttown there's a hidden way to 2 optional areas. No bosses but some good items and a covenant.

ok, I beat it. the first time I got inside of this thing, it lit me up and killed me anyway lmfao. the second time, it blew me up again, but I managed to tank it. the little bug was weirdly hard to poke with the rapier.

Yeah, I have to say, while I like the enemies, the bosses have left me a little underwhelmed. Pinwheel was fun (although the unavoidable fall-damage stun right at the start of the fight sucks, because there's a chance he gets a completely free attack in), and the Gargoyle had its charms (up until a second one appears with no warning), but the rest I've fought aren't that interesting. The ones I've fought so far (other than those two) fall into two categories: the "you like to block/parry, the actually interesting combat? well fuck you" (Taurus Demon, Gaping Dragon) or the "just run into his ankles and stab when his hugely telegraphed attacks miss wildly/bounce off your shield" (Capra Demon).

Special mention to the Gaping Dragon, who did a grand total of three attacks when I fought him, two of which were instant kills (the third big slime thing probably is too, but it didn't hit me), but spent most of the fight doing absolutely nothing while I stabbed his ankles.

Again, they're just the wrong side of good. And the designs are great, which makes it even more frustrating that they're just not fun.

my favorite enemies in this game are definitely other humans like the black knights or people in the forest. landing a parry and riposte on folks like them is what really gets my blood pumping.

the bosses are just like, ok what do I have to do to get this out of the way so I can continue w the game. Their stories are generally interesting, but fighting them is not

Yeah, DkS loses a lot of steam after Anor Londo. The level design drops off a cliff and most of the bosses after that point are pretty bad.

You should definitely play the DLC. Has some of the most fun fights in the game, along with the hardest boss in the game.
