I know it's super popular but I never played it before.

Just got Monster Hunter world and it's boring as shit. You just kill things, then craft stuff to kill things, to craft stuff to kill things to craft stuff in an endless loop.

It feels like a facebook or mobile game but with a big budget.

What am I missing?

Nothing. I love the game, but it is an endless loop. If you don't find hunting the monsters or developing your tactics or grinding for better and better loot fun, then this game is obviously not for you.

That's how they all are. It's kind of a love or hate it game.

... which you only get if you play the game

MHW is pretty easy though. I had never played a MH game before and I died very few times in my 120 hours. The most difficult monsters are only difficult because they're kinda cheap, not because they require a well thought out strategy strategy.

That's a poor comparison, because Dynasty Warriors is largely button mashing, whereas this game is more about combos and tactics.

If anything, it's more comparable to a fighting game.

I haven't played MHW, but I found MHXX to be really enjoyable with my SO so far. Co-op is great.

It's pretty hard to sell ppl on this game. Anyway, have you played any of the souls games?

I know they aren't too similar but sometimes if someone isn't keen on MH games they might still enjoy souls games. Kinda has more of a sense of accomplishment/direction since you aren't endlessly killing monsters and upgrading gear; although there is a lot of that lol

Have you played the games with randoms before? They can't even deal with a regular Black Diablos much less the hardest Tempered Monsters. I once had a 5 cart investigation with Deviljho/Bazelgeuse as the targets and this one dude died three times trying to solo the one we weren't fighting.

Yeah, I agree. Of course you can slash your way through the early monsters with some of the upgraded weapons and do fine, but later monsters reck mindless newbies. That's not even counting the times when people don't know how to use their weapons (Long Bladers not using the spirit gauge, Hunting Horn users not buffing, Hammer users attacking the tails, etc) or the added difficulty of people who refuse to use the environment/type advantage/traps on monsters to make them easier.

I agree. You're gonna have a bad time trying to hack n' slash against most of the lineup of big monsters, especially elder dragons.

Sad that they had to get rid of the series' uniqueness and challenge to appeal to western audience

World is easier because there's no G rank. Every MH game from Tri onward is really easy before G rank.

I have over 600 hours on 4U and am approaching 200 on World.

It basically hinges on whether you like the mixture of skillful gameplay, adapting tactics and strategies, coordinating teamwork with other players, and loot-based progression.

Nothing feels better than beating up a giant monster with a greatsword and getting rare drops to make new weapons and armor sets. Even if RNGesus makes you grind hours for it.
