I just said jokingly imma kick their ass and my friend had his kid the background that said 'don't swear I don't swear and you shouldn't either'

Now I don't swear around kids but did I miss something? Since when is ass considered a swear word?

I mean I view it like the word dumb or stupid I would never classify those as swears.

The donkey meaning is a bit archaic now. You mostly encounter it in things written before WWII. And the butt meaning is the swear word, though as people have mentioned it;s hardly that big a deal. Still, you won't hear it on non-cable channels before 5PM, and I think it still gets bleeped on late night talk shows aired on network.

Yeah, ass was always a swear word growing up for me. It does seem more acceptable to use these days though.

It's a swear word just like damn is, but they're the tamest swear words by far.

Acceptable profanity is largely dictated by various broadcasting censorships

For instance wpede like damn ass bitch and hell are acceptable most anywhere barr "official" settings due to their acceptance in broadcasted media

The funny thing is that "ass" is allowed, but god forbid to tack a "hole" on after it. We get the wondrous edit of "ass*beep*"

Yes in that it is considered a swear word in almost every context.

No in that everyone and their baby sister and the cartoons their baby sister watches swear.

No in that it can also refer to a donkey if you want to be a smartass and trick people into thinking you swore when you didn't, just like with bitch also being a female dog.

I always loved some of the alternate words they use for swears on TV. In the Matrix, I distinctly rember Cipher telling Morpheus "Surprise, Einstein!"
