Any tips are appreciated try to keep the spoils to a minimum for me please :)

This game is pretty cool I haven't used a guide or seen any gameplay video. OoT was one of my favorite games of all time when I was younger, I just got the blue flame out of the furnace and all my runes restored. Impa told me I need to go to the 12 locations in the picture which seems like a task I may need a guide for at least somewhat, I'm going to tackle a few sidequests I've come across in the meantime.

And holy crap! I had no idea the world was gonna be bigger than the initial area I started it. I felt like it would be but since the areas were all blue on the map I thought it was "out of bounds" but after seeing where the 4 Divine Beasts are (I assume) I got a LONG road ahead of me with a ton of stuff to do along the way. Any incite onto what I have to come ahead or things I shouldn't miss?

a bunch of physics puzzles, some combat trials, 4 shitty dungeons, a master sword that works on a cooldown and one of the best open worlds to explore in video games

I, too, am playing through it for the first time. I finally got a Switch last week. Been having a blast with it so far. Seems like we're about at the same spot or so. From the Hateno Lab, if you look off to the right (facing the door), you should see a shrine on a far off cliff and another shrine out in the ocean on a tiny island.

Both are combat shrines (with one of them being exceptionally difficult) but you can get some cool weapons from the enemies. :)

I recommend following the path to Kakariko first once you're off the plateau. Keep an eye out for a funny looking guy on the paths around there.

Enjoy the view sometimes is my advice. Seriously just enjoying your time exploring and finding new things is the best part of this game. Also i would limit walkthroughs to when you are stuck there is a video on youtube for almost any shrine.

Don't try too hard to make progress.

Just run/ride around exploring, enjoying the scenery, and finding cool shit.

I loved coming out of the tomb and seeing Death Mountain in the far fuckin distance. Like, "You can climb me, but you're gonna have to get over here first."

Haven't really played it myself.

But I watched my 8 year old nephew play it several times and sometimes I give him advice or ideas on what to do.

He's also very stingy with the controller and is a little inpatient.

I might have one hours of play time in the game and it was usually just nonsense running around and eyeballing the scenery.

Make a destination and take all the scenic routes n detours. If anything catches your eye, explore, because you'll be rewarded somehow.

Call it a bit of an exaggeration, but it feels like they made every conceivable spot provide a really nice view. While I'm exploring it's easy to forget this and it becomes sort of busy work, but then I randomly stop and look at my surroundings and the far distance and...it's usually a pretty gorgeous experience. One of my favorite spots in the whole game world is Satori Mountain just because of this. They put so much detail in that mountain. Apple orchard, durian spring, a swamp, plants of all assortment, a freaking mythical creature at the summit, a view overlooking central Hyrule Field and Castle...

One thing I will say though, I hate the fog filter they put in to simulate blizzards and sandstorms. It's this awful greenish tint that greatly obscures the sky and what you see in the distance. Makes one of my more loved level tropes (snow and ice) to look rather ugly. The brief moments where you don't have that fog filter in snowy regions though (seems to be quite rare), it is gorgeous.

I love the 1 15-20 hours and I thought it became boring after a while. the maps are well designed, but they have so much emptiness at the same time.

Don't get attached to your weapons. They're just a disposable resource. When they're nearly broken you can throw them for extra damage.

Scout out enemy camps before attacking. There's usually something you can take advantage of to heavily disrupt or kill most of them. A big boulder or some explosive barrels. There's usually something.

Fire is a good way to panic the beginning enemies. Grab a club, run to their little fire pit, light up your weapon and go to town.

If an NPC tells you something handy or interesting screenshot it for later.

Yeah, this especially. There's literally hundreds of weapons out there in the world, not even counting the ones enemies wield. Some even respawn over time (which I will say, you'll know what the respawn point is and I love it for how unique it is). If you're struggling to find weapons, then just explore. You're bound to find loads of resources including weapons and shields.

Do the Vah Medoh divine beast first, it gives you hands down the most useful ability.

Thanks for the input guys. I'm about to load up the game right now and get a few hours in. I'm going to attempt avoiding guides but finding these picture locations seems like quite the task bc none look familiar at all

The painter NPC from Kakariko will show up at regional stables to give you some very helpful advice on finding the memories. I'd probably have never found the forest path picture without his help.

For the longest time I thought the Blood Moon was a period of time where there were more monsters than normal and they were stronger than normal. Everytime a blood moon happened I was like "oh crap oh crap" and then surprised I was able to avoid getting swarmed. Didn't realize until later that's not what it was lol

No problem :) Though while this might just be my personal preference talking, I wouldn't rely on him unless you're absolutely stumped (or the pic is deliberately vague, like the forest path one). Because there's definitely a wealth of satisfaction to be found finding them all on your own, either by recognizing a landmark and trying to line up the perspective until you find the telltale glow, or by exploring the world and stumbling upon them.

Finding the memories was actually some of the most fun I had exploring in the game, which is high praise, considering that BotW is my top ten all time personal games. I think the only exploration-wise moment that topped it was heading blind through the sandstorm in the SW corner of the Gerudo Desert, expecting to merely find the last Leviathan skeleton, and finding the skeleton and a Shrine and the final Great Fairy all in the same jackpot of a location.

Getting to a tower in a new area is always a good idea. The view up on them can help you plan your next routes (whatever you want them to be).

I would play on both, depending on what was going on. If I wanted to play while watching TV, handheld. If my handheld was running out of battery, switch to TV.

I didn't have a preference really one way or another.
