Why is it popular with celebrities? What are the core beliefs of Scientology?

A long time ago a group of aliens called Thetans went against Intergalactic Lord Xenu. As punishment they were sent to earth, put inside a volcano and blown up with hydrogen bombs.

Science fiction writer L. Ron Hubbard turned a story into a religion that heavily brainwashes it's followers, and charges huge sums of money in order to go up tiers to the point you would learn the true secrets of life, etc, etc. It's incredibly difficult to leave, and if you do they're known to have people follow you, hire private investigators to go through your stuff and track you, make hate websites about you, create false accusations, and even blackmail or sue you.

It's not that it's popular with celebrities, it's just that like others many were born into a family whose parents were already members. Also in some cases they may coerce other naive people to check it out.

It is popular because it is exclusive
Scientology got different levels.
You start at the bottom level where you basically know nothing, you are told that you are not ready for the big secret until you have raised enough levels, which you do by donating enough money.
When you have donated enough money to raise to the right level, you will learn the big secret, which only ~10% of all Scientologists knows... and since celebrities got money, they are at the exclusive top.
75 million years ago, or something like that, it existed a Galactic Confederacy ruled by an alien dictator named Xenu. He gathered billions of his people in spaceships that looks like DC-8 and shipped them to earth, where he dropped everybody in volcanoes and killed them with hydrogen bombs.
The spirits of these aliens tried to get home, but Xenu had machines that captured those souls, brainwashed them with movies and threw them back to earth, where they merged with humans.
These alien souls knows deep down that something is wrong, which is why we have sad feelings.

Learning this secret before you are prepared will make your alien soul go crazy and you will die.
