American gun fantacism is a mental disorder. I've said it time and time again.

A constitutional right is not a mental disorder.

People are literally dead, families literally destroyed, and people are cracking jokes.

Maybe because Australians and other non-Americans are always jumping on us and insulting us when it happens here.

For good reason it happens every other week in the states.

Don't be surprised when you guys get shit on for this one then.

This. It's a horrible tragedy, but foreign CElibs have no respect for Americans killed in mass shootings. If you can't take it, don't dish it out.

We have nothing but respect for the fallen. You dont see it that way because "dey tekin err gans", but why would we keep suggesting it over and over if we didnt respect your dead? The obvious benefit of gun control is that mass shootings like this happen less. Youre the ones that dont respect the dead by taking action to prevent it happening again. In fact, i refuse to believe youre being serious. Your post is invoking poes law.

When you look at the actual numbers, mass shootings in America are also extremely rare. Australia has 24 million people. America has 330 million people and a lot more guns.

The fact that mass shootings are as rare as they are in America shows that allowing law abiding citizens to have firearms isn't the problem.

i really dont see a case for this being gun control working or not working. stating this case which is one of the bigger ones in a few decades is a silly thing to fall back on. and stating this being the only one in 20 years so it must work also doesnt really hold water when gun deaths were already in decline a decade prior to the 96' buyback and in many cases were replaced with other means (arson being a big one, in which deaths spiked 50% after the buy back over the years).

rip to those who lost their lives regardless.

Indeed. The media never looks at the actual data because they know it absolutely demolishes the anti 2nd amendment narrative that is popular these days.

in general these mass shootings inspire high levels of attn because they shatter the illusion of safety we have from violence in our middle class communities

but really the truth of the matter is we're still pretty damn safe in said middle class communities, albeit less so statistically than our english-speaking foreign peers, not so much less so that it's remotely probable we'll have a security issue ourselves. someone will, though. and young boys growing up in poor communities are quite likely to be influenced by it, they are ultimately the real victims as they're sucked into gangs.

it's easy to not think of them as victims as they frequently are also the perpetrators of violence, and we tend to believe in 'an eye for an eye'.

no they inspire high levels of attention because the media preys on peoples susceptibility to negative news, because it generates ad revenue.

the media preys on stories that innately inspire attention

because its job is to make money and sell the story people want to hear

the story of a child in oakland dying in a drive-by gets the attention of zero white suburban communities because they figure "that's not something that can happen to my kid"

the story of a dozen children in a school dying gets the attention of those communities because they figure "that could happen to my kid"

these communities make up the bulk of tv-viewing audiences

i see no reason to try to blame the media for anything. they are a profit engine that responds to the incentives that are inherently linked to the population. if you dislike what the media does in america, consider that maybe you dislike the way americans think.

Americans are the most inconsistent people in the world when it comes to their own rights, what rights other's have, and how those rights should work. In four (or eight years) everything they believe will shift depending on their stance towards the party in power. No one should take them seriously anymore. Buckle up and watch a true government react to a tragedy and accomplish things in response. No one in your country is capable of true leadership, it's going to be amazing to see people who actually are.

People are dead and instead of sympathy, the first thing you do is go political, disregard innocents and take a mockery tone. Clearly you represent the best of humanity. Given they don't have mass shootings regularly and this is INCREDIBLY RARE, it does indeed work. The US has many times more gun related crimes in a single day than Australia has in two decades so actually proving Australia's point thoroughly that it works in spades. The point of gun control isn't to remove gun crimes entirely because that's impossible. The point is to lower them to the point they aren't a multi day occurrence every year like in America...

With this logic, why have police or laws if crimes happen anyway? Obviously because that doesn't make any sense and the point of them was never to rid them outright but to keep things under control...
