When I saw it and heard the line I thought that it was probably ad libbed in because even though its like one of my favorite parts of the movie Im not 100% sure it really fit in with drax character.

five minutes before the scene (or after idk) he was eating chips while bragging about being so still nobody could see him. i feel like that line was perfectly in character considering the context of him in the rest of the film

I can see this working also. I do think "why" makes sense because they are saying, "I'll do you one better," and positing broader and broader questions, so Drax interprets this as the necessary question to ask.

Steve Rogers consistently gets some of the best lines in these movies and it's going to be a damn shame to see him go after A4.

IW spoilers: It really, really makes that one scene in Infinity War just a total gut punch. A lot of kids who see these characters as real-life heroes don't understand what was going on; they don't go "okay there's a sequel in a year and of course Spiderman or Drax are too important to kill off. Spiderman dying was just the worst. There were 3 year-olds in my theater dressed in costume that had their whole world crushed.

The kids will be just fine. I'm really tired of seeing people online whining about this, not saying you are but I see a lot of moms say "WHY WOULD THEY MAKE THE MOVIE LIKE THIS."

It's good for kids to see that sometimes the heroes don't win.

The line requires too much like situational awareness of the conversation. Drax tells a lot of non jokes or just his lines are funny because of how clueless he is a lot of times. This felt like a joke he did on purpose.

Yeah, this. It fits him perfectly because it's quite literally elevating the line of questioning, which is Drax's entire thing, taking things too literal. He was trying to out-do Iron Man by asking what he thought was a broader question and not having a grasp of why it doesn't make sense.

I picked that up first time I saw it....

I thought that was the entire point of it being so heartbreaking. Everyone else it just kinda happened to, but Peter KNEW it was coming.
