in the comics, Thano's species is called the Eternals. and Titan is fine. they didn't die out. but in the MCU he's the last of his kind. in the comics he even has a brother

At least this way they buy themselves some time before having to eventually explain he's a gene-freak or whatever hackneyed term they come up with instead -- assuming they don't ignore it altogether. --- "Why look, an otter in my water!" ...
