I was reading up on Mega Man... and, after like X4, it seems to get crazy. We have multiple different viruses going on, some of which started with Sigma, who was actually infected by Zero for some reason? All reploids are destined to go crazy, X eventually founds his own nation and then becomes a Dark Elf?

Yea. As the lore got deeper, the games kinda got shittier (as it is with many games)

It's an interesting lore, and the gap between MM Classic and MMX is still a mystery. Nobody knows what MM11 is going to do to fill/bridge that gap.

Don't forget that the Legends Series takes place 8000 years after the ZX series and has its own lore.

He didn't though. X6 still has a crappy backdoor ending for Zero that sets up MMZ about the same.

It's X7 ignoring it and still using Zero that really messes everything up lol.

But the truth is there is no plot in Mega Man. Capcom just makes up what they want and never bothers really resolving anything. >_>

Yeah the short of it is after Wily's second defeat he tried to one-up Dr. Light by building a single robot he felt could take down MegaMan.

First was Enker. Then he tried to reprogram another MegaMan from the future to do his bidding (Quint) and that went nowhere. Punk, Ballade, Sunstar, Bass, King, and finally his masterpiece, Zero.

It's theorized Wily improved on the evil energy he found in MM8 which led to his Roboenza virus in MM10, and then took it further to create his Maverick Virus which he infused into Zero. 100 years later when Zero was located by Sigma the virus transferred during the battle. Zero became a good guy and Sigma infected others which began the X series titles.

X5 was meant to be the last game, but Capcom saw a quick cash-grab and made X6. The end of X6 is now meant to lead into MM Zero. While X7, X8, and Command Mission were later made they are not considered canon to the series, and take place in an alternate universe.

Then the story got all sorts of weird with the Elf Wars, later going into ZX (which makes things confusing since Advent is canon yet one of the powers is clearly based on Axl), and finally the Legends series which takes place supposedly 10,000 or so years after all of that.
