I was joking. The new system is bad too though. They only count sales from the actual Steam store and they have to make like 15k in sales or something like that. You can add them anyway but they just won't drop. The system is bad since even games that sale well still take forever to have cards drop. The new system only benefits AAA developers and indie devs are fucked by Valve.

Unfortunately, with fact that Greenlight is gone, it had to be changed so people weren't paying $100 to get $300 from card fees.

The key system is bullshit. It means that if somebody buys a key from something like the Humble Store it doesn't count towards the card drops.

Like Valve cares. They didn't get 30% of that sale.

Stores like that have to buy from Steam. Who do you think generates the keys?

Nope. The publisher / developer can generate keys for reviewers and websites themselves, and that costs nothing to do. Valve will prevent people from doing something excessive like 100,000 keys for a game with no sales, but otherwise, no issues.

Remember when Steam had quality control?

No.

Steam has always been a quantity over quality service, and the more it opens the floodgates to increase its own profits, the worse the signal-to-noise ratio has become. They're ultimately unwilling to take the actual necessary steps to police the platform, because that would cost them money. Most of their effort along those lines is only perfunctory PR moves to quiet the majority of complaints so they can go back to printing money and not making Half-Life 3.

People talk about more crap getting onto Steam, but I suspect it has more to do with the end of Greenlight and the rise of the current system.

The problem is that Greenlight itself was basically responsible for a tidal wave of shit. The main reason the current system exists in the first place was as a means of solving the massive fecal explosion that Greenlight caused.

As long as Steam prioritizes getting as many titles as possible onto the platform and generally monopolizing the online distribution space as much as possible, rather than hand-picking higher-quality games and filtering out asset flips and mass-produced shovelware, this problem will literally never be solved. Especially since they keep trying to prioritize low-effort solutions to the problem to avoid having to pay more employees or pass up developer cash.

Those are the free giveaways ones. Humble can't generate keys.

It also doesn't count towards the review scores :(

And now Steam is attacking anime games. Google up 'Steam anime game ban' for a bunch of different takes on this development. (These games are why I got Steam in the first place, so --)

It's disproportionately attacking those games however in general it's an aspect of theocratic/puritanical "sex is worse than gore" nonsense.

Freedom is constantly under attack by control-freaks. That can't be forgotten.

Change your Google search terms to 'Steam banning anime games', in that case. Should take you right to it.

My apologies, Delta. I was unaware you had a separate topic for this.

That being said, according to Twitter, Valve has backed down for the time being, and the games they cited are being left as is until they are "re-evaluated".

A Valve employee does play the game before allowing it to be released. I think it's just to make sure it's not a virus.
