I for one will be highly disappointed if this is what Retro has been working on all this time.

If this is real and Nintendo actually green lit this instead of a new F-Zero game, I am going to blow a gasket.

If they make it like F-Zero but with Starfox characters I'll accept it. I'm just that desperate for more F-Zero.

They basically wanted a sci fi Diddy Kong Racing, but they couldn't go with F-Zero cause then they'd actually have to make it balls to the wall difficult?

So they went with Star Fox instead?

Am I understanding this right?

They didn't go with F-Zero because Nintendo has this weird fear of making any more F-Zero games. That franchise is just relegated to cameo appearances and minigames now.

F-Zero wouldn't really fit the Diddy Kong Racing formula either would it?

Wouldn't people complain they'd be changing the formula too much? I'm assuming this game will be nowhere near as fast and will have flying courses.

You know, considering most SF games are on-rails anyway with the vehicles and light-hearted characters being the most standout aspects, this kinda makes sense -- especially if they've somehow worked a shooting aspect into the game. It would need to be ambitious as fuck though and more than just a racing game to convince everyone that it's a good idea.

Either way it seems Nintendo is at a point where they simply don't know how to make a truly good Star Fox game but are hesistant to completely retire the IP. I feel like for a modern Star Fox game to work, it would need a huge budget in the vein of AAA western devs (or Square Enix) and Nintendo don't really roll that way which is why they've been ending up as graphically underwhelming short experiences.

I think people are expecting a generic F-Zero/Mario Kart with Star Fox characters but I think this will lean more into Star Fox elements more than people are expecting. So I think you're right.

Retro have done a good job bringing back Metroid and Donkey Kong so it'll be interesting to see what they've drawn up here.

Give Star Fox 64 the Sonic Mania treatment. Have some fans create new game based on the style of the N64 game. Too bad Nintendo will never let that happen (or release a mostly on rails Star Fox game without some insane gimmick).

This seems fake on so many levels. Why not just make Fzero for one, and two, Retro has been developing whatever they're working on for a really long ass time. Star Fox Zero came out 2 years after Tropical Freeze (Retro's last game), if they were working on a Star Fox Game it would have made way more sense for it to be an actual Star Fox game and not the **** Wii U game that was made. Not saying it's not possible, but doesn't seem to add up to me.

Star Fox is just an odd duck. The gameplay of an on-rails flying shooter just isn't deep enough to make it into a full-fledged game that you can't beat in an afternoon. Every Star Fox game barring Adventures is short as fuck.

That seems like a little bit of a stretch, since they handed the beloved Donkey Kong Country franchise to them, and they knocked it out of the fucking park.

I'm personally interested to see what Retro can do with a racing game. They've already shown they can handle a FPS/A and platformers

There are other rumors saying that they were at work on another game as well after finishing Tropical Freeze Wii U, but it went through development hell and Nintendo ultimately decided to cancel it or pass it over to other devs because Retro was getting nowhere with it. Some think that's why Retro isn't working on Prime 4 despite them being the easy choicethey were, and the game has actually been in production much longer than we think, but since most of the old staff who worked on the Prime titles aren't there anymore things didn't work out.

There are also rumors saying they were at work on a new IP, but Miyamoto didn't like the character side of it, so they pulled a Kirby's Epic Yarn and retooled it into an already recognizable Nintendo brand. This could've been that new IP.

I think people assume Nintendo just hands out games they want done to all of their studios but that's not always the case. Sometimes the developers themselves pitch the games to Nintendo and they approve or deny it. If anything this is probably more common.

I remember Retro saying they were the ones that chose to do Tropical Freeze. I doubt Star Fox Racing is any different. Even though they were working on Star Fox Zero they probably thought this project was different enough to approve.
