I think the issue with Iron Man 2 is that it presents itself with a certain amount of promise and it falls into the trappings of standard superhero fare. Whiplash and Hammer both have the potential to break out of standard villainy but they fall into it instead.

iron man 2 didn't stand out either way for me. i need to rewatch.

i liked iron man 3 as an exploration into tony stark as an individual, but i think it's also the film that started the trend of mcu movies losing the weight and impact of the the iron man suits, turning them more into action figures

Biggest lesson I learned: you don't watch an Iron Man movie for the villain.

The issue is that Iron Man 2 didn't present something in which we could explore much of Tony Stark. Iron Man 3 certainly did, and that's the greatest strength of IM3. IM2 is very much a Batman Forever-type film.

I think Stark dealing with his own death was an interesting exploration. I think it's a huge part of the maturation of Stark in future movies.

Basically, I don't think IM1 Stark would think to build a million suits or develop something like Ultron to protect the world.

I like GotG 2 better than 1. The first one was just presented as this "OMG BEST THING EVER" deal to me, and it just didn't hit that high. I didn't really watch GotG 2 with any expectations aside from not being in love with the first one and that made it more enjoyable I think, because I do agree with the statement that it forgets it has other characters aside from Quill.

Well of course that's usually poison for any movie. At least when people hype up tv shows they can start slow to temper that expectation and get better later.
