Not good, I used to do 2.0 miles jogging easy. My friend wants to do a relay race next month with me. No way I can in this shape.

Just keep doing it daily. I did 2.5 miles every night when I was preparing for basic military training.

How many miles did you start at? If you haven't been keeping up with cardio, then you should start low and then gradually increase it.

I can definitely say that practice makes perfect when it comes to running. If you don't do it regularly you'll suck at it.

Citation: did obstacle course/mud races with a friend 3 years in a row and only trained for the first one which was the only one I could run straight through and not be dead/passing out

I assume it's 3 miles each for the relay race? 1 month should be enough time to prep for that, if the goal is to just be able to do it

6 miles per leg, 36 legs total, each person is responsible for 3 legs.

Oh, fuck that. You can't prep for that in a month. I've given myself a year to prep for a 14 mile run.

Oh course each person's legs are spaced 12 legs apart.

That sounds pretty rough for just one month of training. But getting back to doing 2 miles easily is definitely doable within that time. You just gotta keep at it.

How far have you all run at one time? For me, it would be a little over six miles. I would want to run a marathon but the distance just seems crazy to me. I want to at least be able to run 8 miles in one hour first.

Go at a slower pace until you can increase your distance by whatever amount you're looking for, then start cutting down your time. One, it's pointless to be fast if you can't complete the distance, two, it's much easier training this way because a key factor of running is knowing how to keep a pace.

At 34 years old, I kinda think I should take up swimming for my cardio. Running is easier to get into but long term I can't imagine that being good for my joints.
