Because its just as much a part of our vocabulary as anybody else's but we cant use it in public in the same manner as others? We don't want to walk around slinging slurs like we own the world, we're just tired of forcibly saying "whassup my...dude..." Because in 20-motherfucking-18 the n word is a term of endearment in regular conversation and we all FUCKING know it

I answered that already. I think it ultimately comes down to people not liking hypocrisy. Either it's a bad word nobody should say or it's ok for everyone to say. Truth is, at least in regards to the common way you hear it, most people don't really care either way. I see white people and all minorities use it quite a bit in the real world and nobody bats an eye. I know that's just an ancedote but whatever

Is this actually a thing, or just a strawman statement? I do think the stigma on the word is a bit much in terms of saying it in a non-racist manner. Like, the whole world doesn't need to gasp in horror if someone white says "the n word is a bad word" or repeats rap lyrics. It is just a word at the end of the day. The only time it should be decried is if it is directed towards someone in a racist manner.

Eh, it's not untrue. Everyone knows or should know it's a loaded word and your right to utter it isn't in jeopardy. There just doesn't seem to be a purpose for said desire other than getting to be naughty.

And I thought Bill Maher shouldn't have gotten so much or any flak over what happened with him.

At least this is an actual interesting question. In a heated argument, people can call each other bitches, shitheads and so on(I mean the whole point is to piss the other person off). Why is every word allowed but one? Lol

Oh, I agree. Don't misunderstand me! I would just have everyone drop the word if I could just so this doesn't have to be discussed over and over again. I think people should be more mature and factor in context because one meaning is calling someone a friend while a slightly different use makes it bigoted. I just don't have faith in people to make that distinction so it's my opinion it should just stop being used period but cest la vie

Because most people are trying to make the other person in argument look worse, not themselves. There's no sense in screeching out racial slurs when you're arguing with someone just to make everyone else witnessing it think that you're a racist.

In my experience, black people only care when it's some random non-hood person saying it.

My circle is full of everything, but mostly black. We all grew up in inner city areas, including several white people. The n word gets thrown everywhere, but no one has ever said others to stop, except this black gf of one of the black dudes. She was all like "EXCUSE ME?" to our white friend, but the bf told her it's normal and not to care and that was 3 years ago. Now she doesn't care either.

It's also the way you say it. It if rolls off naturally, other black people can automatically tell you're also from some hoody area because it's more a hood term nowdays than a strictly black term. But if you sound like an idiot saying it, they catch on quick.
