Obviously context is important here. I'm not going to go around calling people fatties unless I want to be a social pariah. But saying you're thick or curvy is saying the exact same thing, especially when it's a conversation between men about a woman for God's sake. Fat people aren't stupid, they know this. "Thicc" in particular is redundant when we can already call someone thick to mean big boned, big, large, etc. That's not fat. "Thicc" is fat.

Contextually, people use "thick" or "curvy" in lieu of "fat" to deny the negative connotation to attractiveness that the word "fat" has accrued. It implies one can still be physically attractive without being the supermodel ideal of thinness.

Fat stores differently on the body for different people. Sometimes a little fat in the right places can be attractive. The same amount of fat put into the stomach not so much.

It's changed over the years. For some reason guys seem to talk this way to each other now. It used to be like "I think she's hot" but now it's "she's Thicc" or "she's curvy" ... I preferred it when curvy meant nice hourglass curves. Fit used to mean in shape, not that a girl's body type was Arnold Schwarzenegger. When talking to a girl the topic of her being over weight is generally avoided, but I guess we have this whole Thicc deal which is really promoting a strange counterculture that's obsessed with being as fat as possible and is clearly unhealthy. Like dudes now call girls thick with two c's and this is supposed to be a compliment? Also I don't see why accepting that you are overweight should be removing self esteem or whatever. The first step to getting over your problems is acceptance. And the supermodel look is the other extreme, one of anorexia. As far as fat shaming and getting in shape goes, sure credit where it's due. Either way though the person is still fat so it's not doing them any favors to heavily sugar coat that issue if you happen to somehow get into that discussion. There's a mental trap you can get into where being the way you are is fine and dandy because you surround yourself with people that say it is. The mind really likes those traps and they are difficult to get out of.

While it is unhealthy to be overweight, that is the person's responsibility to deal with, and not your call to accuse. For those doing the best what they're given with, who will never achieve a "fit" body, I don't think it's up to you to decide that the words they use to describe themselves are damaging to them, especially since you're just one person with your own set of standards.

You say your motivation is for their health. Given the tone of your topic, I'm skeptical.

I agree with this definition, I guess mine was poorly worded. My issue is just that it still amounts to being fat. There are some instances where it's particularly extreme. I just don't get why we need a new category of fat here, doesn't make sense.

Yes. Obviously it can be subjective which category a woman fits into. Generally when you say "curvy" or "thicc" you are saying the woman is fat in a way that you think looks attractive and/or sexy. If they're too big, or big in places you don't like, then you would say "fat."

If you only find skinny women attractive then these differences wouldn't matter as much to you but they are still very real differences.

No because "fat" usually has clear negative connotations. It doesn't specifically say anything about how the person is large or overweight--just that the person saying it thinks they should be thinner. Sometimes it is meant to be neutral, but usually not, and calling someone "fat" is almost always interpreted as an insult.

Whereas "thick" and "curvy" have clear positive connotations. These are terms people use to say that a woman looks hot.

I almost always see them used in regard to fat girls. Typically, Thicc to mean fat in the legs and ass, and curvy to mean Wailord, not hourglass. If I were going to use thick it would be more like stout, larger in the legs but not fat. And curvy would basically be hourglass shaped, not bag of potatoes shaped.
