Well not broke, broke but I'm only able to save around $2500-2800 a month after bills. It's going to take a while to buy a house. This includes contributing to my 401k/ira (which I Max out every year).

Absolutely. Most people don't save and we get older a lot faster than we realize. It's the best investment to make.

Because compound interest. A dollar saved today grows the longer it is invested. So if you save enough while you're young you can guarantee retirement.

It's subjective. If I lived in the middle of no where that had properties going for 180k I would agree, but saving 30k a year conservatively in an area where trash homes are around 900k-1.2mil it isn't much.

Here's an example, my father purchased his home for 800k years ago and remodeled it. Currently it is valued at over 3.8million. The average square foot cost is $1,480 on average homes. Again, this is subjective. I plan on semi retiring young (early 50s) and getting out of the area and live like a king.

What are your typical annual expenses? What net worth do you need to retire?

Approximately $80k a year. This includes maxing out 401/IRA, rent, misc bills, insurance, going out, gas, etc. My yearly bonus varies anywhere from 20k-50k but I typically use the majority to invest and the remaining amount for a trip or a new toy.

I haven't really thought of a networth value to retire. As of right, if I won 8 million after tax I would still continue to invest and work. My plan as I said, is to semi retire in my early 50s and cut back to 3 days a week.

hi, you're not broke. you're living below where you want to be, but you're not broke. a car problem wouldn't ruin you financially. you can have an accident and miss work for a month and probably still be okay. these would be inconveniences for you. these would force people who are actually broke into homelessness.
